Gummy Worms.

7:04 AM

I sighed as I stared up at my bedroom ceiling, listening to the sound of Brett and Brandon getting ready for soccer practice, slightly annoyed that they had woken me up on a Saturday morning when I REALLY needed my beauty sleep. I guess this is what happens when you live in a household where men outnumber women. I pulled myself out of bed, quickly fixing my bed head, knowing that Joel would be downstairs with my brothers. He was basically just another brother to me but I seemed to always feel the need to make myself decent. As I climbed down the staircase of our mid sized Spanish style home, I was greeted with the smell of French toast.

"Good morning, honey." My mother greeted, pulling me into a warm hug. It was kind of a thing she did where she clobbered her children in love and affection in hopes that they won't drink and do drugs. So far I think I was the only one it was working on.

Suddenly a green eyed, chocolate haired, freckled covered face popped up in front of me. "BREN."

"BRAN." I stuck my tongue out at Brandon, our usual greeting towards each other.

"BRETT." Brett greeted himself.

We were triplets. We had the same forest green eyes, freckle splattered face, pink lips and chocolate hair. Some how I ended up being the girl in the set of triplets. My brothers were considered popular at our school, due to their good looks and insanely outgoing nature. Since Brett and Brandon were so popular it added onto their influence, which resulted in no guys wanting to date the "Little Wolf." My brothers were on the soccer team, another source of their popularity. They hung out with all the soccer players, gathering at our house usually to hang out. They called their group "the pack", since our schools mascot were the Timberwolves and our last name happened to be wolf.

As far as the pack knew, I was off limits. My brothers made that very clear. Dating was basically off the table for me.

"Can you guys not be so loud in the mornings? Some people actually like to sleep on Saturday mornings." I dramatically winced at the sun light as I poured myself a cup of coffee.

"You gotta wake up and smell the bacon or something Bren. Live your life to the fullest or whatever I don't know." Brandon mumbled with a mouth full of French toast. Brandon was the fearless one, who was always joking and always in a good mood. If you needed someone to do something insanely stupid with, it was Brandon. Brett was more responsible, we called him the brains. Brandon looked up at me with a smile. "Do you wanna come to practice with us?"

"Uh nope. I think I'll pass. Maybe I'll go do actual girl things today." I looked down at my nails, realizing I was in need of a polish. "Where's Joel?"

"He's meeting us there today. Have fun doing girl things." Brandon grabbed the keys to the hellcat he shared with Brett. Dad agreed the could have a Hellcat to share if they gave up having their own cars. I was smart enough to not interfere with their car shopping and settled on my white Jeep Patriot. After the boys left I decided to get ready for the day. After a quick shower, I blow dried my hair and flat ironed it straight. I applied my makeup, deciding to go light on it today since I was only running a few errands. Tinted moisturizer, mascara and rose colored lip cream would do it for me for the day. I pulled on a comfy pair of yoga pants and one of my brothers long sleeve crew necks. I climbed into my  jeep and begun my day.

The trip to the nail salon was quick and soon I found myself standing in the candy aisle of target. A brother free Saturday meant watching Heathers and eating an obnoxious amount of gummy worms.

"Gummy worms?" I was suddenly startled by a deep voice next to me. I looked up, green eyes meeting blue. I instantly recognized him as Lane Peyton, and felt myself freeze. Lane Peyton was Washington Height's notorious bad boy. He was a senior, just like the boys and I, and he kept to himself mainly. He wasn't a friendly guy, but that didn't keep him from being popular amongst the students. He didn't hang out with the pack, and much to my knowledge they didn't like the guy. Lane was your typical bad boy. He had the whole motorcycle, leather jacket thing down and looked like he just stepped out of an Express catalog: beautiful and well dressed. His crystal blue eyes and jet black hair set him apart from most guys and his skin was tanned, compared to my pale porcelain skin tone. His arms were covered in more tattoos than I could possibly count and he smoked cigarettes and partied excessively, even on school nights. From what I heard the guy had never had a girlfriend, just one night stands.

"Um.. Yeah." I replied nervously.

"Strange to see the little Wolf without her pack." He let out a snarky remark. I narrowed my eyes at him, furrowing my brows at his comment.

"I don't have to be around my brothers 24/7... I do my own thing actually."

He smirked, and I knew he was mocking me. "I'm surprised. I always thought you had all of your little body guards attached to the hip and wrapped around your little finger."

"Look, you could have just pretended you didn't recognize me. It wouldn't have hurt my feelings, promise." I rolled my eyes, grabbing a bag of gummy worms and turning.

"It's Brenda right?" He spoke before I could walk off.

"Brennan." I hissed, slightly offended he didn't know my name.

"Did your parents just want all boys or something?" He laughed. What a fucking asshole.

"They were expecting three boys. I was a surprise and that was the name they had prepared." I tapped my feet in annoyance, ready to get away from him, and sighed. "Look, I don't have time for this."

"I'm not surprised you're such a bitch. You are related to those douchebags. At least your ass looks nice in those pants." He was testing my patience at this point, testing to see my reaction.

Stay cool, Brennan, stay cool.

"You know what, fuck you. Bye." And with that I turned on my heel and walked away from him.
