"What do you say? Homecoming?"
I kept replaying Lanes words in my mind over and over again. I guess I was going to homecoming with Lane Peyton. It was Sunday and I was currently browsing through the racks at Nordstrom with Matty to find the perfect dress. Lane suggested that we both wear all black, because it was 'bad ass'. We had another week before homecoming week, which was in my opinion one of the most annoying and unnecessary weeks in the entire high school experience.
Homecoming in Texas is a big deal. Each day of the week there is a special theme and everyone dresses up for it. Most of the time it's something stupid, like nerd day. Students form groups, where they all get matching tshirts with their names on it and take millions of pictures. But the worst of it all, is the Mums. Mums are these gigantic flowers with a bazillion ribbons attached to it that you were on your chest, or arms for the guys, on Spirit day(the day of the homecoming day.)
Since Lane was my date, he would be a part of my group... Aka the Pack. Which was probably what the manipulative little bastard was planning on. I still hasn't broken the news to my brothers yet.
"If I don't find a date I'm going to make Brett take me." Matty groaned, searching through the racks of dresses. "I'm getting desperate."
"Brandon some how got tricked into taking Celia." I pulled a black tube dress from a rack and scrunched my nose. "I hate all of these."
"Joel was telling everyone he was going to ask you. Surprise surprise." Matty let out an evil laugh. She couldn't stand Joel, so she thought it was hilarious that I was going with Lane instead of him. "Royal blue? Or red?"
"Royal blue. I think Celia is wearing red." I pulled up a simple, black chiffon dress. It was perfect. "This is it."
"Simple dress, dramatic everything else?" Matty asked, knowing me all too well. I nodded, purchasing the dress. "You should probably talk to Joel about his obsession with you."
"Matty, he's not obsessed with me. He's just like one of my brothers."
"Ooh, brother zone ouch. Make sure he knows he's bro zoned." My best friend smirked at me, as we walked through the mall. "Are you and Lane like.. A thing?"
"Nope." I said, popping the P. "He's just trying to fuck with everyone. He's all about playing games and I've decided to play along until I figure out what he's actually up to."
"Good, don't fall for it. This is going to be interesting."
