During the day Monday my mind keeps on going back to my dream.
Why wasn't I certain that it was a dream? I don't even remember what it was.
At lunch, people are talking about something that I haven't heard.
"Did you hear what happened?" I hear one girl say.
"Oh yeah, that," a boy replies.
"How unfortunate..." someone says.
"Yes, very unfortunate," I hear someone else say.
What went on?
I can't decide if I should ask or not. For some reason I am hesitant to ask. It seems like something people aren't comfortable telling others about who don't know about it. I end up not asking.
"Rin, do you want to hangout this weekend?" Alexandra asks me while we are waiting for the bus.
"Sure," I reply.
"Lily, did you hear about some unfortunate incident?" I ask.
"We are lucky we weren't in it," says Lily.
"So you've heard of it?" I ask.
Lily doesn't reply.
"Tell me..." I whisper.
"I'm not sure..." says Lily.
"Please. I need to know," I say.
"You should have been told..." says Lily.
"I wasn't."
Lily looks at me.
"You weren't?" she asks.
"No."
She doesn't answer.
"Please... tell me. I will not bring it up!" I plead.
"Rin, let's talk about this somewhere else."
"No!"
"I don't want to talk about it..."
"Why? Just tell me."
"Rin..."
"Please."
"Are you sure you are fine? Does your holo-watch have a glitch?" she asks me.
"No..."
Why do I feel like it has one? There's no way.... WAIT. It could explain that... dream.
"I see."
"Huh?" I respond.
"You are curious, aren't you?" she asks me.
"Yes, I am. I want to know what happened."
"Fine. 3 people... faded away. In... in an accident. They... were young," she says, her voice shaking.
"What?"
"Yes... it was 3..."
"How...? Why...? I don't see..."
We are both silent.
"Well," I say, trying to sound cheerful, "I hope they faded away peacefully? I know it doesn't happen often."
"Yes."
"Let's talk about something else," I say once we are on the bus.
"I agree."
The two of us start to talk about something else. I feel like I don't have to care about anything.
"Bye Rin! I'll see you tomorrow!" says Lily after we have gotten off the bus.
