"Our List of Awkward Moments" - danisnotonfire
Before the video
"And that's it?" Phil replied casually, flipping the pancake in the pan with a grace Dan knew he'd never be able to achieve. If it were up to him, the mixture would've already coated the roof and his face, twice.
"Yeah...?" Dan drew out, staring at Phil's back with a muddle of confusion and anxiety. Phil didn't like the video idea, and Louise was going to arrive in less than half an hour. Dan didn't have time to change the entire thing, even if they did film Louise's video first.
Phil didn't immediately respond, which inevitably gave leeway for Dan's mind to jump to every conclusion possible.
"I think it sounds great!" Phil finally announced, spinning on his heel, and bringing the hot pan with him. Dan's first reaction was to wince, until he fully registered Phil's words and tone.
Dan breathed a sigh of relief. "Thanks, Phil," he murmured, both for the encouraging words, and the pancake his flatmate was slipping onto his plate.
Without a sound, Dan cut into the steaming circle, separating it into two before transferring one of the halves to the other empty plate. This was a usual morning routine in the household, generally resulting in-
"Dan!"
Dan glanced up slightly, grinning cheekily, before stuffing his mouth with a piece of his own half of pancake. "Yeah?" he mumbled.
Phil wandered around the kitchen island, taking a seat next to Dan. "I've already eaten, you shouldn't be giving me half your breakfast," he protested, already beginning to pour the maple syrup.
Dan shrugged, swallowing. "Couldn't help it."
Phil smiled gratefully, and took his first bite. After that, they ate in silence, not at all awkward, but simply enjoying the other's presence.
Dan was quick to finish, as always. Setting his cutlery down, he spun on the stool and faced Phil. He hadn't really planned anything beyond that, so when the silence inevitably stretched on without conversation, yet slightly more creepy, it was understandable that Phil would give him an odd stare.
He didn't comment on it, however, instead choosing to drop his own cutlery to the plate with a clatter, despite the remaining food left. "Which stories are you going to tell?"
Dan grinned, the memories already pushing him to break out in laughter. He began to recount a short summary of each tale he had recorded on his phone, and was glad to see Phil smiling and laughing along with him. It was the ultimate test, really. If the video wasn't good enough for Phil, it certainly wouldn't be good enough for the viewers.
Mid-way through explaining 'The Chair Incident,' Phil held a hand up, pausing Dan. "Was that the party at the YouTube space last year?"
Dan nodded, frowning. "How'd you guess, I haven't even told you the socially-inept moment yet."
Phil grinned. "I already know about that, and I think I've got something that'll be useful."
Dan's frown became sharper, his mind reeling. He knew Phil was sitting across from both him and Louise at the party, but surely he shouldn't be able to remember a single event among many over the years. And what was this 'useful' thing Phil had?
Phil, clueless to Dan's confusion, produced his phone from his pocket. Dan couldn't help but watch as Phil swiped into the device, already knowing Phil's code, and opened the photos app.
"Phil?" Dan questioned, unsure. The curiosity was getting to him, regardless of whether the photo Phil was searching for would actually be positive or not.
