It was past midnight.
Y/N POV
I was sitting on the couch of my own room, laptop open, reviewing files from Aurora.
Taehyung stood near the whiteboard, sleeves rolled up, tie long gone.
He looked tired.
But focused.
"You're staring," he said without turning.
"I'm thinking," I replied.
"About?"
"You."
That made him turn.
Slowly.
"Should I be worried?"
"Maybe."
Silence stretched between us.
Not awkward.
Heavy.
Charged.
"You've changed," I said quietly.
He leaned back against the bed. "How?"
"You don't look like someone who lost everything."
He gave a small smile. "Maybe I gained something instead."
My heart skipped.
I looked away first.
Bad move.
Because he walked closer.
Not touching.
Just close enough that I could feel his presence.
"You've changed too," he said softly.
"I had to."
"No," he shook his head slightly. "You became stronger."
The compliment hit deeper than expected.
I swallowed.
"You're the one fighting your entire family."
"And you're the one standing next to me while I do it."
That did something to the air between us.
The room felt smaller.
Warmer.
"Taehyung..." I warned softly.
"Hmm?"
"You're standing too close."
"I know."
He didn't move back.
Neither did I.
His hand slowly lifted — hesitating for half a second — before gently brushing a loose strand of hair away from my face.
That simple touch?
Electric.
My breath caught.
"You shouldn't look at me like that," I whispered.
"Like what?"
"Like I'm the only thing in this room."
His voice dropped slightly.
"You are."
Dangerous.
That tone was dangerous.
"We said no emotional complications," I reminded him.
He exhaled slowly.
"You said if feelings get involved, we stop."
"Yes."
"And what if stopping isn't an option anymore?"
My heart was racing now.
"This is exactly how things get messy," I said.
"They already are."
He stepped closer.
Our foreheads almost touching.
Not kissing.
Not yet.
Just breathing the same air.
"You think I don't notice?" he murmured.
"Notice what?"
"The way you stay late even when you're exhausted."
"The way you defend me when I'm not in the room."
"The way you pretend you're not affected when I touch you."
My fingers curled into his shirt unconsciously.
"I am affected," I admitted softly.
Silence.
Heavy.
Real.
His hand slowly slid to my waist — not pulling, just resting there.
Giving me space to move away.
I didn't.
"If I kiss you right now," he said quietly, "is it going to be because of a deal?"
My pulse thudded in my ears.
"No."
"Is it going to be because I'm lonely?"
"No."
"Then why?"
I looked up at him.
"Because I want you to."
That was it.
No cameras.
No audience.
No family pressure.
Just them.
He leaned in slowly — giving me time to stop him.
I didn't.
The kiss wasn't rushed.
It wasn't reckless.
It was soft at first.
Careful.
Like both of us were afraid the moment might break.
Then his hand tightened slightly at my waist.
And the kiss deepened — still gentle, but filled with everything we hadn't said.
When we pulled apart, we were both breathing harder.
