Two Days Later
Taehyung POV
He should've known peace never lasted.
He was reviewing documents when his father walked into his office without knocking — which meant one thing.
"This Sunday," his father said calmly, "you'll be attending the Han Group dinner."
Taehyung didn't look up. "I have plans."
"You don't."
That made him pause.
His father placed a file on the desk. On top of it was a photo.
A girl. Elegant. Polished. Corporate-perfect.
"What is this?" Taehyung asked flatly.
"Your future fiancée."
The word hit harder than expected.
"This isn't funny."
"It's not meant to be."
Taehyung slowly leaned back in his chair, eyes turning cold. "You don't get to decide that."
His father's expression didn't change. "You lost that privilege when you prioritized emotions over strategy."
Emotion.
His mind instantly went to Y/N.
"This alliance will secure our expansion overseas," his father continued. "And you will not ruin it over a temporary distraction."
Temporary distraction.
His jaw clenched.
Y/N POV
I was reorganizing my bookshelf when Jisoo barged into my house without warning.
She looked stressed.
And that alone worried me.
"What happened?" I asked.
She hesitated.
"My parents... they arranged something for Taehyung."
My stomach dropped.
"Arranged what?"
She exhaled slowly.
"An engagement."
Everything inside me went quiet.
Not shattered.
Not dramatic.
Just... silent.
"When?" I asked, surprising myself with how steady my voice sounded.
"This Sunday. It's not official yet, but it's basically decided."
I nodded slowly.
Of course.
Of course it was.
This is why deals don't work when feelings are involved.
Because someone always ends up replaceable.
Jisoo grabbed my hand. "He doesn't want this."
I pulled my hand back gently.
"Whether he wants it or not doesn't matter."
And for the first time since all this started—
I realized something clearly.
I was never competing with another woman.
I was competing with his world.
And his world always wins.
That night
My phone buzzed.
Taehyung.
I stared at his name for a long time.
Then I answered.
"Did you know?" he asked immediately.
"Yes."
Silence.
"I'm not doing it," he said firmly.
I closed my eyes.
"You might not have a choice."
"I always have a choice."
"Then choose carefully," I whispered. "Because this time... if you choose them, I won't be here when you come back."
His breathing slowed.
"You're giving me an ultimatum?"
"No," I said softly.
"I'm finally choosing myself."
And that... scared him more than losing any deal ever could.
