Moving into my own house was supposed to give me freedom — but somehow, every empty corner still felt like it belonged to Taehyung.

Y/N POV

The silence was louder than I expected.

No sarcastic remarks.
No intense stares across the dining table.
No music playing in the background while he got ready for work.

Just me... and my thoughts.

I dropped my last suitcase near the couch and looked around. This house used to feel safe. Familiar. Mine.

Now it just felt... temporary.

My phone buzzed.

Taehyung: "Reached?"

I stared at the screen longer than necessary.
He didn't add anything else. No teasing. No arrogance. Just that one word.

Reached?

I typed back.

Y/N: "Yes."

Three dots appeared immediately.

Then disappeared.

Then appeared again.

But no message came.

Why did that bother me?

Taehyung's POV

He was in the middle of his meeting, but none of the numbers on the screen made sense.

His father was talking about expansion plans. His mother about alliances.

But his mind?

It was stuck in a small, quiet house across the city.

Alone.

He clenched his jaw.

This deal was supposed to be simple.
No emotions.
No complications.
Just mutual benefit.

So why did it feel like he had just let something important walk out of his house?

Evening

Y/N was arranging her books when the doorbell rang.

She froze.

She wasn't expecting anyone.

Slowly, she walked to the door and opened it—

And there he was.

Taehyung.

No cocky smirk.
No teasing eyes.
Just... him.

"What are you doing here?" she asked, trying to sound calm.

He looked at her like he was debating something inside his head.

"Checking something," he said.

"What?"

"If I made the right decision letting you leave."

Her heartbeat betrayed her composure.

"This was my decision," she replied softly.

He stepped closer — not touching, just close enough for her to feel his presence.

"And what if I don't like it?"

Silence filled the space between them.

For once, he didn't look like the arrogant man who rejected her years ago.

He looked unsure.

Vulnerable.

And that scared her more than his ego ever did.

"Taehyung," she whispered, "this is just a deal."

His jaw tightened.

"Yeah," he said quietly. "That's what I'm afraid of."
