Richard's birthday party was in full swing after everyone had arrived. Richard was super happy when he got his first birthday presents, from his mom and dad. Taylor had gotten him the Hulk mask he had asked for and Adam got him Captain America's shield since he said he wanted it as well. As much as Taylor told Adam she didn't want him to spoil Richard, he gave it to him anyway. Karlie was talking to Taylor, both of the sitting at the table alone, looking over at Adam and Richard, playing in the pool. They had been sitting there for a while, talking about what had been happening lately.
"He's good with him." Karlie noted after Taylor had been looking at them in silence, a small smile evident on her face.
"He is. I knew he would be but yeah, he is." She smiled, her eyes still fixated on them. Richard was having so much fun, his giggles sounded like music to her ears.
"What about you two? Anything I should know?" Karlie raised an eyebrow. She had noticed the silent glances at each other, it was impossible not to see that something was up.
"I don't know yet. For now we're parents co-parenting." She told her.
"Did something happen?" She asked and Taylor sighed. After the kiss, no matter how happy it made her, she was still scared. Scared of getting hurt, scared that people would find out. She had a son to think about, she didn't know if any of it was worth it.
"We kissed and I think he told me he still loves me."She sighed, taking a sip of the diet coke she was drinking.
"Woah..." Karlie's eyes widened as she sat back against the chair, the sun against her skin. "Do you still love him? Because I know for a fact that that is not just looking at your son and his dad playing, that's how you look at someone you fancy." Karlie smirked.
"Maybe but it'll just make everything more complicated than it already is." She shook her head. "I'm going to check on the food. Be right back." She stood and walked towards the house, glancing at her son and Adam one last time before making her way to the kitchen. She heard footsteps come up to her and looked behind her to see Adam smiling at her.
"Is there any chance you still keep floaties in the house?" He grinned at her.
"Yeah, I do in the garage. Why?" Her eyes widened. "No. You are not making our son obsessed with floaties. I'm sure a superhero obsession is enough." She said, pointing spoon at him. He laughed, loudly.
"Thanks, Tay." He kissed her cheek before running outside while she rolled her eyes. Still the same, she thought.
When she went to the backyard where everyone was, about twenty minutes later, her pool had many floaties in it and one in particular that stood out, the swan that held too many memories. She giggled slightly at everyone having so much fun with the floaties. "Swan goals." She heard someone whisper in her ear, behind her before strong arms picked her up and jumped inside the pool. When she came to the surface, Adam's green eyes locked with her, his laugh booming through the air.
"Why would you do that?" She yelled, slapping his arm but unable to keep the smile off of her face.
"It was Ricky's idea." He shrugged, pointing Richard who was sitting on top of the swan floatie.
"Daddy, you weren't supposed to tell." He groaned when his mom swam over to him. She reached for him and tickled his belly making his laugh echo throughout the backyard. Everyone stood there watching. They looked like a real family and it made everyone smile because of how happy they seemed.
Later that evening, everyone had gone home and the ones who were staying were asleep. Despite being excited, Richard was tired from the party day. He ran around, jumping, swimming, playing with friends, no wonder the kid was tired. He had fallen asleep on Taylor's lap. They had been sitting with friends talking and he fell asleep.
Now Adam and Taylor were watching him sleep for a few minutes. Watching his chest rise and fall with each breath. They were watching the life they had created, accidentally but not unwanted.
"He looks so much like you." Taylor whispered, smiling, looking down at her son. She felt his hand reaching for hers and intertwining their fingers together. She turned her gaze to him to see him smiling softly at her.
"He has your nose, though." He said, kissing her cheek. She felt a pang of sadness wash over her. She usually avoided thinking about if he knew at the time she was pregnant. Maybe they would've been doing that when he was born, looking at him and telling each other who he looked like more. He would've been there if she had any cravings during her pregnancy or when he first kicked; he would've been there to feel it. He would've been there when Richard took his first step, when he said his first words. All those milestones that he lost made her feel guilty. Guilty about things she didn't think about when she didn't tell him.
"When he was a baby, he was a copy of you. I tried to forget all about you and then he was born and all I could think about was you. He looks less like you, now it's more of a mixture of both of us." She felt tears roll down her cheeks and wiped them immediately before he could see them but it was too late. He pulled her in for a hug and she instantly buried her face in his chest. "I wish you could've been there to see it. Only if I..."
"Not this again. I'm here now. Let' not think about that, okay? I'm here to stay. I won't miss anything else." He kissed her and pulled her from his chest, grabbing her hand and leading her out of Richard's room. They walked to her bedroom. She didn't say a word, she just let him lead. "Now we're going to sleep because today was a big day." She nodded, going into the bathroom to get ready. When she came out he was shirtless. Just sitting on the bed scrolling through his phone, not even noticing she was there until he felt her sit next to him. His gaze turned to her. "Do you mind if I sleep here tonight?" He asked, smirking as her eyes moved towards his abs. "Eyes up here, Miss Swift." He teased making her roll her eyes and slap his chest when he moved closer.
"The answer to your question is yes." He nodded, his face closer to hers. "To actually sleep, Wiles. No funny business." She pecked his lips, smirking. "I'm scared of this bed."
"What? Why?" He laughed.
"Because I'm pretty sure this was where Richard was made." She giggled, turning off the light. "If we ever had sex in here we'd probably end up with another kid." She murmured, making herself comfortable on the bed.
"Are you saying we are going to have sex?" He asked.
"Good night, Adam." She said, ignoring his question and closing her eyes. His arms twisted around her waist, pulling closer so her back was hitting his chest.
"Good night, babe." He said, kissing her neck. "Tay? One last thing?""What?" She breathed out.
"About last night. When I said I still loved you, I meant it." He whispered and she turned to look at him, turning on the lamp on the bedside table. "It doesn't really matter how long we've been apart, I can't fall out of love with you." The corner of her lips turned upwards.
"We have that in common then." She told him, her blue eyes shining. "Because I love you too." He kissed her lips, softly before pulling her down to his chest. They fell asleep in each other's arms. The love they had missed burning in their veins and in their hearts as they held each other through the night.
