Chapter 2

Mark's Pov

I stared at the picture in my hand. The beautiful girl in it, smiled back at me, revealing her pearly white teeth. Her blue orbs were shining, and her brown hair was being blown by the wind. I smiled. How could it have been five years that Vicky left me? Vicky.. Where was she? Why had she left so suddenly? Of course I had looked for her, but she didn't even leave a trace. I never went to her parent's house because everytime I saw them, they gave me cold stares. I didn't understand why. I had just finished college, and now I could resume my efforts at finding my precious Vicky. I had been so hurt when she left. I mean why didn't she tell me? We had dated for two years. My thoughts roamed.

We walked through the park. My arm was hooked around hers. I looked down at her smiling. She was my bestfriend, but I didn't want her to be my bestfriend. I wanted more.

"Mark, can you believe we start our junior year tomorrow?" she says, her voice sounding like music to my ears.

"I know Vicky. Another year of boring teachers, stupid homework, and endless drama. Woohoo," I said sarcastically.

She laughed and smacked me across the chest,"Shut it Stevens."

I smiled at her, loving the way she had a carefree smile. I loved when she smiled like that, and I loved it even more when I caused it. I couldn't help but think that I wanted to cause that beautiful smile for the rest of our lives. I'm not sure where I found the courage to tell her my feelings. Maybe it was when she stared at me with her blue eyes sparkling, and that beautiful smile that brought me to my knees. I held her hand, and she looked at me, surprise crossing her flawless features.

"What's wrong Mark?"

I drew in a breath,"I like you Vicky. I like you so much. It hurts to stand here and just be your friend. God, it hurts to imagine you being mine, knowing it might never become reality. Look at us, here we are bestfriends, and me having other thoughts knowing that you might not feel the same way. I can't keep this inside anymore. I took the chance to tell you by risking our friendship because I care for you so much. I'm not even sure how you're going to react, but Vicky, I like you. I want to be the reason you smile. I want to be the one who comforts you. I want to be able to kiss you and hold you like I've never been able to. I want to show you how much I care. I want to be the one you call yours."

She stared at me wide eyed, and she did something I didn't expect. I didn't really know what I expected, but I sure didn't expect her to run. She turned away from me and ran in the other direction. I stayed there hurt and disappointed, but I ran after her.

"Vicky! Come back! Vicky!"

I chased after her, until I finally caught up and stopped her.

"Vicky, come on look at me."

Her gaze was fixed on the ground.

"Vicky?"

"I don't want to ruin our friendship," she said softly.

"Why would that happen?"

"I like you too Mark, but what if we break up? We'll never be the same afterward."

My ears shut down after I heard "I like you too Mark." I felt joy spread through me. She liked me. She LIKED me. I couldn't help what I did next. I took a step toward her and pulled her to me.

"Be my girlfriend Vicky," I said and kissed her.

I smiled at the memory. We really were something. I couldn't help, but feel sad, remembering that. She had been my everything, my only one, and I had lost her. I sighed, and stared out of the window of my dorm. I graduated in a few days, and then I'd be back home. And I would be looking for answers when I was there. Starting on my precious Vicky.
