Chapter 5
Vicky's Pov
"Bye mommy!" Robin yelled.
I waved,"Bye sweetheart! Be good."
I smiled at her retreating figure. She looked so adorable. Her brown hair was in a ponytail, and she was wearing a white shirt and a green skirt. I felt my phone vibrate, and I smiled when I saw Anyone's name on the screen.
"Hey Anthony," I said warmly.
"Hey Vicky!"
"How've you been?"
"I've been good. How's Robin?"
"She's wonderful.
"That's good to hear. So, I was wondering something.."
"What is it?"
"Well you know the dance that's next Saturday?"
"Umm no?"
He sighed,"My company's having a fancy dance, and I need to take someone. Could you please go with me?"
"Anthony I don't wear dresses."
"Please Vicky?"
"You owe me big time Ant."
"Yay! Thanks Vicky. I love you so much! You're a life saver!"
I laughed,"Bye Ant."
"Bye."
I ended the call and smiled. He was my best guy friend. I had lived with him for a year before I bought my own house. Our parents were old friends, causing us to be friends too. He was two years older than me, but he acted like a teenager. I drove to the high school where I worked. I parked outside and got my purse. I walked inside and everyone smiled at me.
"Vicky?" I heard a familiar voice say.
My blood ran cold. What was he doing here? I turned around and saw his hazel eyes. It was Mark's father. My eyes widened considerably.
"M-mr. Stevens?"
He stepped toward me and pulled me into a hug. I was surprised. He didn't hate me for leaving Mark? I hugged him back, relaxing into his embrace.
"It's been so long Vicky."
I chuckled,"Yes sir it has."
"How've you been?"
"I've been pretty good and you Mr. Stevens?"
"Vicky you offend me. How many times have I told you to call me Justin?"
I laughed,"A million times probably."
"And you still haven't learned."
"So, what brings you were here?"
"Well the principal and I are really good friends, so I decided to come see him."
"That's nice."
"Yeah it is."
"How's Mark?" I asked quietly.
"He's pretty good. He graduated a few days ago. Now he's back home."
"That's great. You must be really proud."
"I am, but he's not happy."
"Why not?"
"He misses you."
"He does?"
"Yes. He's looking for you."
"He is? Why?"
"He still loves you."
"Why?"
"He always will. Why don't you go back?"
"I can't. This is for the best. He deserves someone better. Please don't tell him you saw me."
"He'll be so happy though."
"Please Mr.Stevens. Don't tell him. He needs to move on."
He sighed,"Okay Vicky I won't."
"Thank you."
He nodded,"I have to leave. Take care of yourself."
"You too."
He turned around and left. I slumped on the floor in relief. After so many years someone from my past had seen me? Why? I got back and went to my room. My homeroom was already seated.
"Hello everyone. How was everyone's weekend?"
"Good," everyone chorased.
I smiled,"Wonderful. Sit quietly until the bell rings."
I sat in my desk and took attendance. The bell rang and everyone rushed out. My first class came in, and they sat in their desks.
"So, everybody. Any music you guys want to try out for the Halloween assembly?"
"I do," a red head named Samanatha said.
"Okay, would you like to show us the song?"
She nodded and went to play on her electric guitar. The song was really upbeat, and the choreography for the song was coming into my head. I asked her to play it again, and I recorded it.
"Who's scared of fire?" I asked.
Everyone raised their hands except two people. I smiled at the two boys.
"Elliot? Henry? You're not scared of fire?"
"Of course not! We can take it!" Henry said.
I laughed," Okay. If you say so."
They practiced with fire sticks, and I was really impressed. They were wonderful. I applauded with the rest of the class.
"That was very good boys," I said.
"Does that earn us a kiss?" Elliot said.
I laughed. He was the biggest flirt in the class.
"Keep dreaming Elliot."
He pouted, while I laughed. I showed the choreography to the class, and they all agreed that it was something they could do. The bell wrang soon after, and I slumped in my seat. I had two free periods before my last class came in. What could I do? I got up and signed out. I'd be back before my last class. I headed out to my secret place.
I closed the car door and sat down. It looked beautiful in August. The sun made the water shine. The birds chirped and the wind blew my hair in the air. It made me feel so peaceful. I sat down and brought my knees to my chest. Sometimes I stayed here, so I could think about how my life would've gone. Would I be married to Mark? Would we live together? Would we live in our own house like he had always dreamed? I sighed. It hurt to be away from him. I stared at my phone, remembering the day I called him. I smiled. He was so perfect. Sometimes I regretted leaving him. I felt someone behind me, and I turned around. It was Anthony. He sat beside me and put an arm around my shoulders.
"I miss him," I said quietly.
"I know."
"How did you find me?"
"I called the school and they told me you weren't there, so I assumed that you might be here."
"What should I do Ant?"
"I think you should tell him the truth."
"He might hate me."
"I don't think so."
"Why Not?"
"He obviously loves you."
I sighed,"Should he love me?"
"No, but he does."
"Thanks Ant."
"No problem. You know I love you."
"I love you too."
We sat in silence. Should I tell Mark?
