"Sorry?" I was in disbelief, sitting here in the principal's office.
"The school has been notified very recently that you are not living with your parents, correct?" The stern voice of the forty-year old woman who, has aged gracefully.
"Correct." I nod.
"Then there is no misunderstanding. Your um..."
"Just call me Heath, Mrs. Lowe." His thick voice says, filling me with comfort. The tall dark man sitting down next to me was apparently a legal relative.
"Yes, Heath will be taking care of you from now on. He just came to notify the school."
I looked over at his striking appearance. Those eyes were the most alluring I've seen. Exactly like the ones I bumped into a few months back. In fact, they were the ones I bumped into. He was the guy on the street with the hat!
"Then that is that. Miss. Alford, I am giving you an early pass to leave school and immediately pack your bags and move. It is in the school's best interest and your safety that you are taken care of appropriately." She sends us out and we walked down the hallway, awkwardly, in silence.
I grab my bag and bid Jeremias a goodbye, heading out of English.
"May I ask you something?" I felt the need to clear this stupidity of mine.
"Ask away." He says bluntly, putting my suitcases in the backseats of his grey Jaguar F-type R.
"Is it a trend for attractive men to own a sports car?" I buckled my seat belt and he chuckles. This was a serious question that needs to be answered.
"You find me attractive, huh?" The corner of his mouth lifted into a smirk and those pair of pale blue-green eyes glistened against the sunlight. "Shouldn't you be more concerned about asking who I am?"
"Oh yes! I almost forgot." I clapped my hands together, remembering the most important thing right now. "You're that guy I bumped into once."
"Am I?" His eyes had a mischievous look and told me the answer to that question.
"I know you." I squint my eyes. "Who exactly are you?"
"It's me, Heath." Well, duh it was Heath. I mean you introduced yourself at the principal's office. "Chaton."
"Oh no..." I knew exactly who this person was. The only person who would call me that.
"Oh yes."
Heath Lupei is the adopted brother-in-law of my cousin - who married Heath's sister. He is of Brazilian, Romanian, Polish and Finnish descent but lived in France for two years, prior to my birth and since then has been calling me chaton. I used to just call him my cousin and so the contact on my phone that is named "cousin" was indeed Heath.
I was afraid of Heath when we were kids because he would always tease me yet he was also a womanizer at a very young age. Instead, I'd hide behind Greg. One day, Heath moved away and I was actually sad for a while.
"How old are you now?" I ask.
"Turning twenty-two. What about you?"
"Seventeen this year." The view of the midst of the bustling city intrigued me. Inside, I was feeling quite upset leaving Greg's house. What the heck am I thinking? I should be happy that I'm not being played into his trap once again. Yeah, Heath is the better option. Heath has a nice car, so where does the money come from? How is he going to financially support me? "What do you work as?"
