Time really does fly. It's already Summer break and I'm exhausted from all the exams. I somehow survived one hectic year.
Today, Jeremias invited Greg, Greg's circle and our circle to the beach for the first day of break.
"So, how's it been?" I break the silence in Greg's car. He offered to drive me there.
"Nothing much. I'd ask the same except I already know how you've been."
"That's not how you ask people."
"There's no need to ask."
"You ask anyway."
"Why? It's pointless." I sighed at this guy. "Hey, Dana."
"What?"
"Sorry."
"For what?"
"For being an asshole one year ago, when you were telling me you were transferring."
My heart did hurt a bit, remembering. "Why? Why were you so mean?"
"My grandfather passed away." He breathed. "And you weren't there for me. I couldn't afford to handle you emotionally and take care of you at school."
"You didn't tell me anything." Greg loved his grandfather for as long as I can remember. He would always visit his house to spend time with him.
"I was willing to forgive you until you selfishly transferred to my school. I got really pissed off about everything and the fact that you weren't there for me."
"I'm sorry I didn't know anything."
"I really loved you. I still do but I know you don't feel the same anymore." He parks the car and we get out. "Let's just leave at that. It was one year ago."
I gulped at the truth and Jeremias saves me from answering the awkward.
"Hey, you're here. Let's go. Everyone's waiting." Jeremias helped me carry the stuff.
Well this was awkward. Everyone was playing volleyball and forgot I existed. I went bathroom the time they started to pick teams and when I returned, apparently I wasn't put into a team. They told me to wait and I have been for the few hours. Just waiting for someone to stop playing but no one did. They were having too much fun and the courts were full.
"Hello?" I answered my phone.
"Hey, are you still at the beach?" Heath's voice sounded attractive over the phone.
"Yeah. Why?" For some reason, I had this hope that maybe Heath would come to at least help me feel less... alone.
"Where are you?" I looked around and easily picked out Heath among the crowded beach.
"Walk to your 5 o'clock." He does as told and finds me in no time with his long strides.
"Why are you alone?" His curiosity filled face soon turned into smirk. "Were you waiting for me?"
"Kind of." I embarrassingly admit, looking down and twiddling my fingers.
"What was that?" He teases.
"Nevermind."
"Okay, I'm gonna go." I immediately tugged onto his shirt to stop him. "Oh? What's this?"
"Stay..." I mumble, blushing.
"One more time."
"BUY ME ICE CREAM." I made a random outburst to play off what I said.
"Hey, you can play. I'm gonna .....rest.." Vanessa's voice trailed off at the sight of Heath. "Who is this?"
"Her-"
