I was jolted awake by a loud bang on the other side of the wall—the only thing separating me from Sasuke.

I blinked several times, my eyes straining to adjust to the gloom as faint moonlight filtered through the small window. I sat up, my bones popping and cracking from being still for what felt like days. After a few minutes of recovery, I glanced at the wall where the calendar was pinned. The last day I had marked before the Forest of Death was July 2nd. It had been roughly six days since the forest exam... but with the way my body felt, it could have been ages.

Another slam echoed, followed by the heavy thud of footsteps and raised voices.

"Sasuke, you can't seriously agree with what the council members are saying!" a familiar voice shouted—Naruto. "Look, we all saw what happened! That girl still hasn't woken up from her injuries. Her bones are shattered and bent out of place! That demon—"

There was a sudden, violent bang against the wall as Sasuke cut him off. A heavy silence followed, broken only by the sound of Sakura's voice, trembling as she admitted she didn't know what to do. She sounded terrified.

I heard a heavy sigh, followed by a light thud against the wall.

"I know you can hear us, Fujioka," Sasuke's voice was low but cutting. "I want you to know that no matter what happens, I want you far away from us."

I froze, his words echoing what Kakashi had mentioned before I was locked inside this room. Then came Sakura, her voice muffled but sharp through the wall. "Misaki... why? Why did you do that to the girl? What was there for you to prove?"

I couldn't answer. I tried to find the words, but my throat felt tight and empty. Before I could even breathe, Naruto said something that hurt even worse than Sasuke's rejection.

"Maybe you really are just a cold-hearted killer," he spat. "There's no way anyone could stay quiet after all this noise unless they just didn't care."

I gasped as I heard their footsteps retreating. A door slammed, leaving the apartment in a deafening silence. I instinctively tried to reach inward, searching for a spark of power, but there was nothing. My body felt hollow. I could not sense even a flicker of chakra; my pathways were completely severed and suppressed by the cold weight of the collar and the restraints around my wrists.

I sat there for a long time, my mind replaying their words as that one word—monster—kept surfacing.

Then came a knock on the door. I glanced toward it, slowly rose, and trudged to the entrance. As I opened it, Kakashi, Kurenai, Asuma, and Might Guy filed in, with my father, Haruto, following behind them.

I stared at them blankly, my mind still spiraling from the one-sided confrontation I'd just endured.

"Can we come in?" Kakashi asked. I simply turned and walked away, sinking onto the living room floor. They eventually took the hint and followed me inside.

Kurenai scanned the apartment before directing her attention back to me. "For someone your age, this place is meticulously clean. How are you feeling? It's been about two and a half days since you were placed under house arrest."

I stared at her for a long while, trying to find the words. Shock surged through my system at the realization that I had been asleep for two whole days.

"I'm here..." I finally whispered, my voice scratching against my throat.

"What Kurenai meant, Misaki, is what are you thinking about right now?" Kakashi reinstated, his tone searching.

My face remained blank as I mumbled that I didn't know. My father asked the obvious, his brow furrowed with worry. "Have you been eating? Have you been thinking about the fight?"
