Y'all lowkey I was struggling to figure out what to do with this chapter, I kept trying to see if I were to make Sasuke go after her would the story still carry out the vision I had but it kept deferring from his personality. Then what would happen next it just turned out like a whole silly story afterwards. I'm considering maybe taking some of the things I wrote and making them just random characters that's just filler for this version. Not so sure on the other one yet cause it's still more in a cannon light and already went through the timeskip.
Also I'm currently editing the old chapters, they might get changed again to match up with what I'm writing now, I feel like some chapters are too vague and off by a huge margin.
Y'all enjoy reading though!
The silence that followed the splash was more violent than the scream Sasuke had let out moments before.
He remained sprawled in the dirt, his fingers still clawing at the empty air where Misaki's sleeve had been. The earth beneath his nails felt like the only solid thing left in a world that had just dissolved into shadows and cold water.
Below, the Naka River was a churning, black ribbon, indifferent to the girl it had just swallowed. Sasuke's Sharingan spun frantically, the crimson red of his pupils tracking the white foam, searching for a flash of black hair or the pale shimmer of skin. But there was nothing. Only the roar of the current.
'I wasn't fast enough.'
The thought hit him with the force of a physical blow. It was the same hollow, sickening realization he had felt in the dark hallways of the Uchiha compound years ago—the weight of his own inadequacy. He had sat on this cliff and tried to talk her out of it, but when the moment came to actually save her, his hands had been empty.
He pulled himself back from the edge, his movements mechanical. His knees felt weak, his heart hammering against his ribs in a way that felt like it was trying to break free.
Suddenly, a white-hot sear erupted from his shoulder. Sasuke gasped, clutching the Curse Mark as it throbbed with a rhythmic, sickly heat. The seal didn't care about his grief; it fed on his weakness. It pulsed in time with his heartbeat, the black markings beginning to creep toward his neck like ink in water.
"Don't look down," he hissed to himself, his teeth gritted. "If you look down, you're weak."
He forced the emotion down—pushed the memory of her voice and the salt-taste of that final, desperate kiss into a dark corner of his mind. He began to build the wall. Piece by piece, the ice returned to his eyes. By the time the first rustle of leaves signaled the arrival of the search party, Sasuke Uchiha was gone. In his place stood a shinobi.

The undergrowth exploded as three ANBU operatives landed in a triangular formation around him, their porcelain masks expressionless in the moonlight. Behind them, the flickering light of lanterns signaled the approach of the rest of Team 7 and the Jonin.
"Uchiha," the lead ANBU barked, his hand on the hilt of his tantō. "Where is the asset?"
Sasuke didn't look at them. He stood up slowly, brushing the dirt from his shorts with clinical precision. His face was a pale, impassive mask—the same face he wore when he practiced his fireballs until his throat bled.
"She's gone," Sasuke said. His voice was flat, devoid of the tremor that had been there only minutes ago.
"Explain," the ANBU commanded.
