Summer 2014.This was the summer that everything changed. The summer that a new chapter of her life was just beginning.
Now, aged 14, almost 15, Evie began to hate herself more than ever. She continued harming herself, she had periods where she stopped for a while, but it never lasted.
Just before the summer holidays, Evie and her friend Erica constantly talked about how they longed to be skinny, every time they walked behind someone with a thigh gap they would flail over them. On the last day before summer started they decided that they were going to become 'diet buddies' to lose weight and get thigh gaps and become 'perfect'. They said as soon as they go back to school, on September the 3rd, they would help each other lose weight.
Evie still enjoyed the summer! She went out with friends a lot, went to parties, of course she fell out with her friends at one point, but that was just normal teenage arguments, they made up almost straight away.
A few days before they were going back to school, Evie began 'dieting' already, she was too excited to wait until school started, she wanted to start sooner. On this particular day, Evie met up with Erica and they went into town together, Erica wanted to go into McDonalds to make the most of eating unhealthy foods before they began dieting. Erica noticed that Evie wasn't eating anything.
"Eve, have you started dieting already then?" She asked, looking down at the empty table before Evie.
She tucked one lose strand of her dark, curly hair behind her ear.
"Um, yes, I couldn't wait I wanted to start early"
She looked embarrassed and ashamed, staring down at the freshly cleaned McDonalds table.
Erica simply continued tucking into her Mcflury and didn't say anything.
As well as starting to diet, Evie often attempted to 'purge' in the school toilets, meaning thaf she tried to make herself throw up so that she wouldnt absorb the calories from the food she had eaten. She never managed to do it though, but she kept trying. Evie also remembered that another of her friends that was dieting told her about this app on her phone which told you how many calories you eat in a day, so she searched up the app and downloaded it.
According to this app, Evie ate around 200calories that day.
