"Noor!"Haroon ran up to her as soon as she entered the class room,"I'm so sorry,I didn't..."He was interrupted by Moazzam,"Drop it Haroon."He narrowed his eyes and caused Haroon to retreat back to his seat.

"Noor,you're here?!"Moazzam asked softly,a concerned look on his face.

"My mama wanted me to study very hard,I want to be like her Moazzam."Noor smiled at him,a twinkle in her eyes.Moazzam nodded and smiled back,"I'm glad you're okay Noor."He said as the two of them walked towards their seats.

"Noor."The teacher called her to the front of the class and after talking to her,led her out,leaving a worried Moazzam behind.

"Noor,I heard you found out about your mama."She spoke too her in the tiny hall outside the classroom.Noor nodded and she continued,"Are you okay,darling?"

"Yes miss."Noor braved a smile.

"Good,come on."She led her back into the class.

"Jehangir?"His mother called him from the verandah.

"Yes Amma."He said kneeling down beside her.

"Beta now that Noor knows,I think..."She took his hand in hers and started but her husband cut her off,"Bilquis! Do not start now!"He thundered.

"Oh ho,I am talking to my son,it is very important."She looked at him with discontempt.

"Bilquis begum,it is not the topic to be discussed right now."He said sternly,looking up from his newspaper.

"Rizwan sahab,one of us has to think about our son's future naa,and you aren't doing it."She argued.

"Bilquis!"

"Jehangir,I was thinking it is now time for you to marry again."She smiled authoratatively at him.

"No Amma,I cannot."Jehangir stared at her,wide-eyed.

"Oh why not?"She frowned at him.

"Amma,Noor is too young,I cannot do this to her,let her grow up a bit."He tried reasoning with his mother.

"How is she to grow without a mother?"She protested.

"Amma,Hafsa was and always will be Noor's mother,nobody can take her place for either of us."Jehangir stood from his place and walked out of the house.

Jehangir's father chuckled and peered at his wife,"I told you not to bring it up."

"Assalam Alaikum Phupo jaan,"Noor hugged her aunt.

"Walaikum Assalam jaan,how was school?"Mariyam smiled at her.

"It was good Phupo,are you staying here today?"

Mariyam laughed,"Yes jaan,me and Asad are both staying here today."

"Oo goody,I'm sleeping with you tonight phupo."Noor smiled eagerly.

"Okay princess."Mariyam kissed her niece's cheek.

"Come Noor,have your lunch."Jehangir said,walking into the room.

Noor skipped to him,"Do you know phupo's staying here today baba?"

"Oh yes,and we'll take phupo and Asad for ice cream then."Jehangir ruffled her hair and led her out of the room.

"Abba."Mariyam turned to her father,"Bhai jaan looks sad,I know it must be because of Hafsa and I'm glad he's keeping a show for Noor,but Abba we should do something.What do you think will ease his pain?"
