"Where are we going phupo?" Noor asked as her aunt stood by the tiny mirror putting on her earings.
"I can't tell you, dadi jan wants to keep it a surprise." Mariyam smiled slyly.
"Atleast give me a hint!" Noor whined, carefully wrapping a scarf around her head.
"Now now Noor, you'll find out soon enough." And Mariyam turned her attention back to the mirror.

"Noor, " Her grandfather called her, "remember 2 days back, when we asked you about Parveen, if you like her or not?"
"Yes dada jaan.." Noor replied, confused as to why exactly was it that Parveen aunty was suddenly mentioned so much.
"Well I want to ask you again, before doing anything, what do you think of her?"
"Dada jaan I like her, she's always been very nice to me, but why, before doing what?" Noor couldn't help but ask. Out of the corner of her eye she saw Baba look down to the ground.
"Well Noor, we're um, thinking of asking for her hand, for your Baba." Dada jaan stated, looking at her through hooded eyes.
"Really?!" Noor's face displayed her shock at the announcement.
"Yes beta." Dadi nodded at her, a little smile playing on her lips.
"Wow!" Noor breathed.
"So beta, are you okay with that. She is, after all going to become your mother, if they accept." Dadi spoke up again.
Noor's eyes started to shine, "Oh... oh, yes she is going to be my mother isn't she?! Wow! Yes dada jaan." Noor nodded in excitement, the prospect of having a mother delighted her.

"Congratulations Rizwan sahab." Parveen's father stood up to hug him, having finallised his daughter's marriage.
Parveen smiled at her mother, peeking at her from the corner of her eyes. Her mother grinned widely back at her and hugged her.

"Noor! Noor! They said yes! Nooorrr!" Dadi jaan called for her as soon as she stepped into the house.
Noor came running out of the kitchen, "Really? They did?" She grinned and hugged her grandmother, "That is so amazing Dadi jaan."
"It is Noor, it is indeed." Dadi looked back at her with equal excitement, "Now, I've already called the tailoress to come and take our measurements for the new clothes, I want the best for my son's wedding!" Her eyes glinted, the prospect of showing Noor off to potential proposers making the situation much more exciting than it was already.
"Amma calm down and sit for a while, you're working yourself up in an excited frenzy and then are bound to get tired." Jehangir placed his hands on her shoulders and started to lead her away.
"Arey! What do you mean? Should I not get excited? It is ny only son's wedding!" Dadi shook her head at him but let herself be lead away.
"It's not like it's the first time, Amma."
"Hush, stop it, Jehangir!" His mother glared at him and sat down.
"Now go place an order at Aslam bhai's shop, we need the food by Friday afternoon. No later than that." Her authoratative voice sounded.
"Amma, it's my wedding, why should I do the work?" Jehangir whined jokingly.
"My dear son," His mother placed a hand on his shoulder and pulled him downwards, "It's not like it's the first time." She grinned and softly hit his cheek.
Jehangir let out a laugh and stood up, "I'm going Amma, I'm going."

"Noor, jaan I love these colours, you will look absolutely radiant in them!" Mariyam nodded at her.
"Yes they really are beautiful! I especially love the purple one." Noor smiled back at her.
"Okay then, Haseena..." Mariyam started explaining to the tailoress how the clothes would be made, as Noor zoned out, someone to call 'Mama' , how wonderful would that be! Her heart blossomed at the thought, her very own Mama.
