Jehangir sat down with his head in his hands, his eyebrows knotted, his mouth set in a grim line.
It had been 2 hours since Hafsa had left and she had still not returned,it was odd,for her to disappear for such long periods of time.
Letting out a groan of frustration,Jehangir stood up and started pacing about, thinking about what should be done,it was after 7 in the evening and Jehangir was scared out of his mind for Hafsa.
Then it struck him,"Baba," he cried,"I'm going to go look for Hafsa near the tailor's shop, please ask Mariyam to tend to Noor while I'm gone."
Saying this,he rushed to the door and pulling it open he stepped out,he started forward and in his haste, completely missed the large package lying just two feet away from the door.
It was long and covered in black,Jehangir turned on the light above the gate and unknotted the top string of the package.
He leaned over to pull the cloth-like material from under the package and as it peeled away,he froze. In his astounded state state,Jehangir was unable to even pull himself back...he just sat there, his eyes not moving from what lay wrapped in black, tears flowed down his cheeks and he didn't wipe them away, not even subconsciously.
His lower lip started to tremble, his vision blurred and he felt his stomach spinning around violently in his body, just the sight,no...just the thought of...of...it made him dizzy,he felt like throwing up,like his stomach would constrict and push out all that he had eaten.
Jehangir involuntarily reached out and touched her cheek, but he instantly pulled back his hand when he felt a dreadful coolness on touch, what once used to be the beautiful pink cheek of his beloved Hafsa was now ice.
He reached out and touched the back of her hand, and on contact,a loud sob escaped his lips, which triggered the pain in his chest,it triggered the heartache he would now carry around with him,it triggered further sobs, sobs so loud that his father ran out.
Seeing his son kneeling on the ground,he stepped forward but what he saw next made him stop in his tracks,a light cry made its way from his throat and he remained fixed on his position.
Recovering slightly a few minutes later,he stepped forward and touched Jehangir's shoulder, his son turned around and the look on his tear stained face was enough to make his father's heart ache for his loss.
He reached down and pulled Jehangir up,enclosing him in a tight hug,at which Jehangir let go and broke down.____
