"Mariyam, take care of Noor okay?" Dadi looked sharply at Noor's aunt.
"God, Amma, you're saying it like I've never been left alone with Noor before!" Mariyam shook her head at her mother.
"Still, precautionary methods! Also..." Dadi was interrupted by Dada jan's voice from outside, "Bilquis! Hurry up now!"
"Okay okay my dears, Allah Hafiz, " Dadi turned and walked outside, on her way to Moazzam's wedding.
"Come on Noor, we should eat our dinner too." Mariyam said coaxing her away from the door.
"Yes phupo." Noor nodded and followed behind, she had to get over this by now. It had been nearly two weeks since she had found out about their engagement, enough time to shake the event off, but it just didn't seem to go from her mind.
"Noor." Noor looked up from the plate she had been focusing on, the look on her aunt's face was enough to know that her aunt knew what was on her mind, "I know it's difficult to forget darling, but..."
"I know phupo, I know." Noor cut her off and focused on the food in her plate. Ugh.

"... And oh ho how beautiful Qurat looked from under her veil, Mariyam, I can not begin to tell you!" Dadi's voice could be heard from the kitchen where Noor stood.
"Oh Jehangir, come come, the food is almost ready." The next exclamation sounded and Noor hurriedly placed another naan on the pan.
Dadi cleared her throat in order to be heard more clearly, "But do you know who looked even prettier? Parveen! She looked absolutely breathtaking. The way her long brown hair swept past her shoulders. And her dress, oh dear, she absolutely shone in it, the pink complimenting her white complexion perfectly!" Noor walked into the room to see Dadi steal a glance at Baba from the corner of her eye.
"And... Jehangir!" Dadi boomed.
"Yes Amma?" Jehangir's head snapped up.
"Are you listening?" She said as Mariyam stifled a laugh.
"Dinner's ready." Noor said before anyone else could say anything and pointed to the verandah where dada jaan sat at the mat already.
"Oh how I try and to no avail!" Dadi sighed loudly, raising ber hands to the sky and heaving herself up to go to the dinner mat.
"What?" Jehangir whispered to Mariyam.
"Ohhh nothing." She giggled and sat down next to her mother.

Dinner ended and the adults went into dada jaan's room for a very important matter that dada jaan had to speak about, Noor sat on the mat, drying the plates, what could be so important? Her curiosity just wasn't letting her focus on the task at hand.
"Noor!" Mariyam's voice called and Noor ran to dada jaan's room eagerly, "Yes phupo?"
"My dear child, go to sleep early today, tomorrow is a big day!" Dada jaan smiled and motioned for Noor to go closer to where he sat. He kissed her forehead and smiled lovingly, "And I have a feeling you're going to enjoy this."
