Wings Solsen's POV

I walked past groups of friends talking and laughing. I didn't need them. I just needed myself. Friends couldn't understand you anyways...

With those thoughts, I strode confidently across the fields to Care of Magical Creatures. Students gathered up in groups and the teacher laughed.

"Yes, today you will be working in pairs."

I heard squeals of delight and was the only one that wished the teacher never said that...

I was left standing alone for the thousandth time and was about to go find a seat by myself before someone tapped on my shoulder. It was a girl I recognized in Gryffindor. Diana Bryns.

"Shouldn't you be with your other friends, you being popular?" Oops said that aloud. She frowned and shook her head.

"No, I'm with this friend right now."

I mentally face palmed. All the other girls would surely question why the loneliest was with the most popular.

"But there aren't any more..." I spun around. There was no one else for her to work with. "Ugh, fine."

We both plopped down in the grass as the teacher passed out some unicorn hairs.

"Now each unicorn hair..." I zoned out. Diana seemed to be listening intensely while I stared at the sky behind the teacher. This was beyond boring.

"Wings, can you tell us something about Unicorn Hairs?"

I nodded politely. "Well, for one, they come from a unicorn... They are used in wands... and... They contain magical properties."

"Correct, but Diana just said that. Next time pay attention."

I glared at Diana. What was the point of groupwork for this?

The teacher turned and called into the woods. A unicorn emerged, the most beautiful creature I had ever seen. I gave an awed sound and the ladies stood up. Unicorns didn't like men too much, I heard.

We all went to the unicorn, and gently pet it like instructed.

The teacher taught us how to take a hair, without harming or scaring the unicorn, and the pair's came up slowly, taking a unicorn hair for their own.

It seemed to look at me with a gaze unlike any other, and I was afraid to take one. It was our turn and we cautiously approached the unicorn, stroking it, and then Diana reached for a hair.

I stood petting the side of the unicorn's face while Diana went for the hair.

But then it did something extraordinary.

The bent it's head and it's two front knees for me to take one. Speechless, I pulled one and it felt like pure silk.

The teacher was awed.

Diana ran up to me and looked happy. "That was so cool!!!"

Having a friend made everything better I guess...
