I woke up around six, completely lost and disoriented for a few minutes.
Oakley was sleeping peacefully next to me. The boys were doing the same in their tent.
I decided to just start breakfast and surprise all of them. I managed to get a fire started in only two tries and began mixing up a dozen eggs for scrambling.
Half an hour later, I had two pounds of bacon frying as well as eggs. Three tubes of pillsbury cinnamon rolls baked in the coals.
Tommy was the first one to stumble out of the wall tent. He rubbed his eyes and yawned loudly.
"Good morning." I smiled.
"Mornin'." The brown eyed boy mumbled through a face splitting yawn.
"Need some coffee?" I asked with a smirk.
"Yes please."
Between the two of us, we figured out how to work the blue tin coffee pot.
"Coda, when was the last time you went camping?" He questioned as I struggled to get the lid back on a water jug.
"I don't know. Probably not since I was five or six."
"Phew," he whistled. "You need to get out more."
"Where's the fun in that?" I teased.
"You're already having fun and you know it," he grinned, messing up my hair. "Nice bed head, by the way."
"Thanks, Thomas."
"Yup," he smirked. "So what are we doing today?"
"Swimming!" I cheered.
"Sounds awesome! Where?"
"I don't know. That's a question for the Meisner crew. They know this place like the back of their hand."
"Sweet. Can I go wake everyone up?"
"Have at it." I handed him a frying pan and a metal spoon.
"GOOD MORNING!" Tommy shouted, smacking the pan utensils together obnoxiously.
When nobody moved from their beds, he tried a different tactic.
"GET THE HELL OUT OF BED OR YOU DON'T GET ANY FOOD!"
Landon was the first one to come running out. Not surprising. Kellan and Charlie immediately scrambled out after him with the rest of the boys hot on their heels. Oakley took a bit longer to crawl out of our warm little tent.
"Here," I handed the coffee pot to Landon before he could start his usual rant about starving to death. "Get everyone some coffee. I'll make more once you finish this off. Breakfast is almost ready."
"Thanks Code," he squeezed me hard enough that I couldn't breathe.
Everyone dished up and we sat in a circle around the fire again.
I was sandwiched in between Oakley and Landon. Next to Oakley was Ryker, followed by Charlie, Tommy, Kellan, Shawn and Matt.
"So Matt, where are we going swimming?" Charlie questioned.
"We have a good sized pond on the property. It's about a mile away so we can either hike or drive."
"The water is so clear! It's amazing!" Oakley piped up.
"Are there any fish?" My brother asked.
"Yeah we both swim and fish. If you wanna go fishing this afternoon, we can eat them for supper. There's a lot of bass and crappie in there," Shawn explained.
