Chapter Seven: A Lesson in Normality

Days passed and not once had Anthony spoken to me. During breakfast he kept silent, as well as during lunch and dinner. He never looked at me either, no sideways glances like before. I found myself missing him. Before I knew it my first week at the Wesley Farm passed and on Tuesday Mother had finally written back.

"Princess Flora!" Mrs. Wesley called from downstairs. I raced downstairs eagerly at Mrs. Wesley's call to find her holding a thick envelope labeled Margret Wesley of Wesley Farms.

"Your mother sends you word," she told me, "I will let you read it first in case it's not for my eyes." she handed it to me and I thanked her, ripping the letter excitedly, hoping for the slightest news on my life away from here.

Dearest Daughter,

I am permitted only to give you the slightest details on the happenings in court, in case unworthy eyes set upon this note to you. The Imposter has not yet spoken and I do not believe him to any time soon. He is stubborn and loyal and I do not believe he will give us any information. Your father refuses to let you return until we find out who sent the vile man. Until then you will stay at the Wesley's who will be sending me regular letters on your wellbeing.

As for the question Margret Wesley send me concerning you attending her in town, I must say I do not like the sound of it. I do not want to risk any of the commoners recognizing you and gossiping. However, I trust the Wesley's and believe they will keep you safe. If it is not too much to ask, I would like you to have lend you some of her clothing as to not draw too much attention and for you not to speak to most of anyone.

Your father and I miss you dearly and hope for your return as soon as possible. Stay safe and we love you.

Sincerely,

Your mother

I set down the note and took a deep breath. It felt good to hear from my mother but I was sincerely glad I was not going back. I smiled at Mrs. Wesley and she smiled back joyfully.

"My mother granted me permission to go to the market if only I did not dress in my own clothing as to not draw too much attention." I told her.

"That's good to hear dear, I will lend you some of my clothing- they're a bit warn but I believe they will do." she told me. I smiled happily at her. After Anthony had stopped speaking to me I felt as though my time here would feel empty and lonely, now with this news I felt uplifted and even gleeful.

"We will have big dinner tonight and tomorrow I will take you to the market." Mrs. Wesley told me.

"Thank you." was all I could think of to say and happily, I ran from the kitchen to put my letter away when I was brought before the boy who had made the last few days maddening for me.

"Excuse me." he said softly as he moved pass me. This had been the first time we had been alone after Anthony stopped talking to me and I would not let him go so easy.

"Wait." I said, moving in front of him to stop him from walking any further. "I want to talk to you."

"About?" he asked, as if he did not know.

"Why are you ignoring me?" I asked, "For the last four days you haven't said a word. I grow lonely without you I must admit."

"As do I." he says to me, quietly.

"Then why do you treat me like I don't exist?" I asked him. "You're hurting my feelings." I admitted, which sort of shocked me. I was never one to spill out my feelings; however, around Anthony I found myself doing it more and more.
