A: Meeting the in-laws

Meeting the parents of your lover is always a harrowing ordeal. It was a battle to keep your pride while also showing them that you were truly deserving of their son or daughter.

But to meet the parents of your lovers who, before this moment, assumed there were only two people in the relationship, was terrifying.

Jun Yibai, the supposed third party, sat on the couch opposite the older alphas', his hair still dripping as he waited for judgment. He had wanted to slip back into his room to change, but the cold glare he got from the two parents had him sheepishly walking toward them like a child awaiting his punishment.

No matter the age, the scolding look of a parent could not be disobeyed. Even from his newly introduced in-laws.

To their credit, Chen Guiren and Li Suiren had quickly rushed to his side, buffering him between them. It earned them even more baleful glares, but the pair stayed strong, not leaving his side.

Jun Yibai appreciated it.

"So... Is this why you two insisted on living away from the main house?" Su Dai said, her tone cold and probing.

Jun Yibai couldn't help but stare at the woman. They had only met once when he and Li Suiren were in elementary school. At the time, she was a lot more casual and outgoing, perhaps because she had only just started working at the time. The years had sharpened her to a razor's edge, displaying the aura befitting of a high-ranking police officer.

The trio sat in silence, sneaking glances at one another as they telepathically begged one another to think of something, anything, to get out of this awkward situation.

Like a blessing from heaven, the kettle went off.

All three young men snapped to their feet, each offering to get the elders some tea. Before either could question their very obvious escape plan, the three ran to the kitchen.

The good thing was that the kitchen was far enough away that they could talk. The bad news was that they were well in sight of the elders, so escape was impossible. Especially since Jun Yibai was still in his underwear.

"Here." Chen Guiren offered his shirt to the beta, stripping in the kitchen. Of the two, Chen Guiren's shirt was the closest to fitting Jun Yibai's wide frame.

"Thanks."

Seeing the elders still watching them, they moved about the kitchen, preparing the tea to serve. All the while, they whispered to one another.

"Why didn't you warn me that your parents were coming by?" Jun Yibai snapped, bringing out the tray and cups.

"I did!" Chen Guiren snapped back, looking wronged as he secured the teabags. "I sent you a text last night to stay in your room."

Jun Yibai turned to Li Suiren, watching the omega nod in confirmation, proving he got the text too.

As for his own phone, it was... not on him. He'd gone to take a shower. Why would he bring it with him?!

Jun Yibai cursed under his breath, trying to come up with a solution to their predicament. This was the worst possible way for the elders to learn about their relationship. Worse still, since the engagement between Chen Guiren and Li Suiren was probably a business deal. Jun Yibai was a hiccup in the plan.

The only good thing was that it was the parents who caught them and not old master Li.

But that wasn't far behind.
