Chapter 1 - Desire
~~~"Phoebe sweetie, would you be a dear and get more more drinks." My mother smiled with false sweetness, distaste gleaming in her eyes as she looked down on me. "Thank you darling."
I didn't even have to to nod my answer as I scurried through the crowd of people who'd come to celebrate my brothers victory at becoming champion of Unova, holding back my tears that had been threatening to fall all night. Again my brother was made the centre of attention while I was made to vetch food and refreshments as my parents paraded my brother around like one of his trophys. He must love the attention, he is the golden child of the family after all. The entire Sinnoh region must be here, all trying to catch a glimpse of my older brother, I don't think they even knew the famous Christian Lee had a little sister. Who would want to know? It's not like I'm 11 and have been allowed to go on my journey or anything. Not like that all (sarcasm for those who haven't guessed)
Don't get me wrong though, I do love my big brother, I just wish I could be noticed a little more.
I sighed as I entered to kitchen to where Bree was making cookies. I smiled meekly at my Breloom while going to the fridge to collect more soft drinks only to find we'd already been through all the bottles. I groaned and slammed the fridge shut, squeezing my eyes shut. Bree gave me a worried look as a result.
Great. Just another reason for my parents to give me the 'why can't you be as good as Christen?' talk.
"Roserade?"
I looked up to see Bloom in the kitchen doorway that leads to the backyard, a shopping bag full of soft drinks held between her rose like hands. The shiny Roserade smiled softly while offering me the fabric bag.
I smiled at my two grass type Pokémon. "Thank you, both of you." I whispered to them.
"Breloom."
"Roserade."
I collected the soft drink from Bloom and headed back to the living room where the party is going on, avoiding my parents as I did so. My head pounded as the heavy music gave me a nauseating headache I simply couldn't shake, regardless, I did my best to serve the party and avoid my parents wrath. Through all the chaos on the party I crash into someone and land on my behind. I stutter out my apology looking up to see my older brother. His perfect perfect perfect jet black hair spiked up in perfect perfect perfect little needles and his perfect perfect perfect crimson red eyes shone in the light of the disco ball my mum bought just for the party. He bent down and picked up the fallen drink before extending his hand to me. "You okay sis?"
I nodded and accepted his hand shyly. "I'm fine." I took the bottle from him and scurried to the drink table where I put it down and sighed, poring myself a drink in attempt to soothe my aching head.
"Phoebe, aren't you meant to be baking more treats for the party." My dad asked from behind me, making me jump and spill my drink over the table. "Now look what you've done, your brother wouldn't of made a mess. Why can't you be more like him?"
I looked down at my feet, shuffling slightly. "Sorry dad." I replied quietly.
"Clean up this mess and get back to the kitchen."
I nodded and scurried off to get a cloth to clean up my mess while also biting back my tears. I collected a cloth from the kitchen, nodding to my Pokémon who were still cooking together before heading back out. When I got back to the refreshment table I found someone had beaten me to cleaning up the mess.
Cristian looked at me with his perfect perfect perfect smile. "I thought I'd give you a hand with things."
I shook my head. "No, enjoy your party. It is for you after all." I sighed, taking the cloth from him.
My brother frowned. "I'm sorry about this Phebs." He said, using the nickname he'd given me years ago.
I forced a smile. "About what? I'm fine." I rushed away before he could reply, re-entering the kitchen where my two Pokèmon were finishing icing the Pokémon shaped cookies.
I wrung out the cloth into the sink and leaving it there before turning to my Pokémon. With a faint smile, I gave them both a pat on the head. "What would I do without you both?"
"Rose."
"Loom."
Thinking back, I'd hardly ever been without my Pokémon. Bloom was given to me by Cristian. The shiny Budew was the child of his own Roserade bred with his Frostlass, he'd given me the baby Pokémon for my third birthday. She'd served as a playmate and caretaker while my brother was traveling since my parents had very little time for me. I don't remember the day of course but Christian told me I was ecstatic when he gave me her Pokéball. A few years of bonding later, my Budew evolved into a Roselia. It was around then that I met Bree- I was about 8- Her trainer was being extremely abusive about her not evolving fast enough and making his fire type Flareon attack the grass type Shrewmish. Unfortunately, Bloom being a grass type as well made her weak against the fire type and we lost in a battle over the mushroom like Pokémon . The trainer then told his Flareon to attack both bloom and myself. If it wasn't for Bree evolving at that moment, we both would of been badly hurt. Her attacks also broke her old Pokéball making her wild again. Shrewmish, and Breloom, aren't native to Sinnoh so the poor Pokémon had no where to go, I offered to let her stay with me and she never left.
Bloom and Bree didn't quite get along at first (I had the suspicion that Bloom got jealous of my divided attention between the two) but Bree was more then understanding of Bloom's position as my first Pokémon (and as she probably thought, the leader) she often showed traits such as waiting for Bloom to start eating before she did or giving the best berries on the bush to her. Bloom soon understood that Bree had no intention of stealing me from her and they became best friends, sisters almost. Christian have me the Dawn stone I needed to evolve Bloom for Christmas last year.
Despite the fact I had two well trained Pokémon of my own, my parents both believe that its not safe for me to travel alone. Christian went on his journey when he was ten but I'm not allowed to at all. Which is completely unfair! They keep comparing me to him, saying that I should be more like him but they won't even give me the chance.
I gritted my teeth as tears splashed against the kitchen sink, digging my nails into the soft flesh of my palms. I hung my head so my fringe shadowed my eyes. It wasn't fair. Christian got everything he ever wanted and I go nothing. He took down team galactic as well as the champion of Sinnoh in his first year of traveling. He defeated team Rocket over his next two years in Johto and Kanto, he went to Unova and beat Team Plasma but lost to Alder. He traveled to Kalos and stopped team Flare. He saved all of Heonn before going back to Unova and defeated Iris and the new Team Plasma. He got everything and I got nothing.
I picked up the plate that Bree had set on the counter full of freshly made cookies. I balanced the plate on one hand so I could rub Bree on the head. "At least I have you two." I smiled through my tears.
I set the plate on the table before heading back to the kitchen. The clock in the wall announced it was late, I called both my Pokémon before heading to my room in the roof of the house. I didn't completely mind the room but why I was up there annoyed me completely. My old room, with its fairy floss pink walls and Mareep wool carpet had been transformed into Christian's trophy room repaint and remade while all my stuff moved out of the way, where it and me could be forgotten.
I sat on my bed, staring at the single window in my room while Bree crawled onto my bed. She rested her head on my knees while I pulled Bloom up next to me. The moon stood at midnight point, it was a new day but things would stay the same. Nothing could change the fact that Christian was the perfect perfect perfect golden child.
As I said before, I love Christian, he's not snobby or rude. He treats me better then my parents do, unlike them he treats me like I exist all the time and not just when he wants something from me, and he loves me just as much as I do him, but I wish that I could be noticed by someone. I was only known as Christian little sister, and that was only by the very few people that bothered to learn that fact that knew me at all. Half the people that knew of Christian had no idea I existed and I want to change that. I want to prove I can be someone.
Just once I'd like that chance.
