Chapter 2 - Runaway Dreams
~~~
I sighed, throwing another stone across the river. "It's not that I hate Christian. How can I, he's too perfect perfect perfect for even me to hate and it's not like he did anything wrong. It's my parents." I counted three skips before the rock snuck with a gentle 'plunk'.
"Easy for you to say. 'Ruby do this', 'Ruby do that', 'Ruby hurry up and move out already so we can convert your room into an indoor bowling ally'." My best friend Ruby sighed pulling a face while skipping a rock of her own. "Well I would move out if oh you know, you'd hurry up and let me get a Pokemon already." Her rock skipped twice before sinking to the bottom of the lake. "Think yourself as lucky you have Bree and Bloom. I have no one... But you guys as my friends of course."
Ruby's short chocolate brown hair waved lightly in the breeze and she crossed her arms to inspect the back of the river. Her green eyes scanned each rock carefully, judging how each one would skip. Her parents named her Ruby because her eyes were meant to be red like both her parents but instead she had bloomed mossy green ones instead.
"I'd prefer no one then someone I love but want to hate at the same time. Christian gets whatever he wants without batting an eyelash while I'm given the honour of standing in his never ending shadow. Pa-lease, count yourself lucky." I rolled my dull pink eyes while fixated on the stones laying just under the crystal water of the bank.
"What if we ran away. You and I? Start our own journey together?" Ruby smirked.
"Rebellious as ever I see." I snorted, looking up at my best friend. "Would that really work? I mean, not to be mean, but you don't even have a Pokémon."
"And you have two." Ruby pointed out.
"I love ya Rue but I'm not giving you Bloom nor Bree."
Ruby rolled her eyes. "No, but you can catch me one or even I could borrow one and catch my own. Both Bloom and Bree follow my instructions for the various battles we've had before so it shouldn't be to hard to catch a Shinx or something, I'd be happy with a Bidoof at this point. Think about it Fe, you and I on a journey across Sinnoh. No one telling us to be as good as anyone or to hurry up and grow up."
I let out a long, low sigh. "We've been over this like a hundred times Rue. Neither if us are allowed and how for would we even get before missing persons reports are filed everywhere. I bet we wouldn't even be able to get to Sanjem town to get our Trainer ID's."
"Wanna bet?" Rue smirked.
I shook my head. "No I do not."
My green eyes friend let out an angry huff. "You're such a party pooper Fe. Come on where's your sense of adventure?"
"I have plenty of it, I just have the ability to think logically as well. Unlike a certain brunette I know." I said with a eye roll.
"Hey I happen to resent that statement."
I smiled a little before looking up at the sky noticing the late afternoon vibe to the sky above. "Oh fudge cake! What time is it?"
"5:30. Why?" My friend replied.
"Krabby cakes. I was meant to be home half an hour ago!" I groaned, scrambling up the ledge that led to the path above. "Bloom, Bree, we have to go!" I called to my Pokemon who were dozing nearby.
"Why do all your swear word replacements always involve food?" Ruby called up to me. Crossing her arms with a smirk.
"I have to go Rue. I'll catch up with you later if I'm not grounded." I waved to her before rushed down the path to my nearby home, Bloom and Bree at my heals.
It didn't take me long to arrive back home and it took me even less time to climb the tree that sat out the front of my house. I scrambled over the branches, leaving Bloom and Blee watching from the ground since it was not uncommon for me to leave them outside to soak up the rays of the sun.
I climbed through my open window into my attic room. I pulled off my shoes, throwing them across the room near where the trap door that led up to my room sat before laying on my bed with a book in hand and not a moment to soon as I heard someone climbing the ladder and the door opened.
"Haven't you heard of knocking?" I growled to my mother who was looking surprised to see me.
"When did you get home?" she asked suspiciously.
"A while ago. Why?" I lied, sitting up with false confusion.
"I didn't hear you come in." my mum replied narrowing her eyes at me.
I rolled my eyes in return. "Well duh. Whenever am I noticed in this house?"
"Don't use that tone with me missy or I'll get your father to deal with you."
I rolled my eyes and buried my head back in my book, ignoring the talk my mother gave me on how I should at least say something when I come in and how Christen always greeted her whenever he came home from anything.
Eventually she left and I let out a long low sigh. I dropped my book and ran my hand over my brow, removing the thin layer of nervous sweat that had formed. "That was way to close."
"What was way to close?"
"Gah!" I jumped, falling off my bed as Christian entered my room. "Ow."
"You okay Fe-fe?" My older brother chuckled.
I glared at him, pulling myself to my feet. "Peachy." I grumbled.
Picking up my previously discarded book, I brushed past my brother and walked over to my book shelf while the I replaced the book.
Christian sighed, lightly grabbing my shoulders and spinning me around to face him. "Phoebe, what's the matter?"
"Nothing." I replied blankly, shaking myself from his grasp. "Why would anything be the matter." Sarcasm coated each word I spoke as I shook myself from my brothers grasp to sit my book on it's shelf.
"Well, I have a preset for you." He smiled as I flopped back on my bed.
"Is it a Lilliepuppy?" I asked with false enthusiasm.
Christian chuckled. "No, even better." He smirked, holding up his old Pokédex. "You said you wanted one."
I frowned, accepting the black and red device. "Why are you giving it to me?"
"Professor Rowen wants me to use a new one he made, so I wiped this one especially for you to use."
"But why are you giving it to me? I'm not aloud to go on a journey remember." I sighed, handing it back to him.
My older brother gave me a wink. "That never stopped me." Was all he said before he left my room, leaving the Pokédex on the table beside the trapdoor.
I frowned, mulling over my brothers words before I sighed to myself. "I'm going to regret this." I muttered as I walked over to my computer and opening my Skype chat I had with Ruby.
I'm in. Was all I typed before waiting for a reply.
You serious!?
Yes, I'm in. What's the plan?
I'll get back to you on that...
There is no plan it there?
Not yet there isn't. But there will be.
I sighed, falling back against the chair. What did I just agree to?
