Chapter 5: The Royal Ball

--At the gate of the castle where the Ball is held--

"Let's enjoy ourselves and just think that it is a rest of our busy schedules." Evie said.

"Yeah, let's not be nervous, just think of it as a break." Audrey replied, looking at Mal.

"Okay! Let's go!" Mal said.

Everyone entered the Ballroom.

Meanwhile(just a few seconds ago),

The boys where in the castle doing what they wanted, some anxiously waiting for their dates.

However, Ben had a different situation. He needed to choose the rightful Queen of Auradon. But most of the time he only thought of Mal. And only Mal.

Ben was only thinking of Mal. Thinking that only Mal was the rightful Queen. And up till now, he knew he is listening to his heart.

"Ben, you okay?" Carlos asked.

Ben was staring space.

"Ben...?" Carlos asked again.

"Oh...yeah. I'm fine." Ben finally replied.

"Loosen up! Just think that it is a Ball. A NORMAL ROYAL BALL!" Jay said, punching his chest, real punch.

"Thanks, Jay. I really needed that." Ben replied.

The girls entered the Ballroom as their dates welcomed them.

The boys each welcomed them with a kiss on their cheeks. Mal noticed that Ben was zoning out. "Ben, what's wrong?" she asked, with worry.

"Oh... Nothing." he said, coming out of his daze.

He was thinking about the choosing of the rightful queen again.

He didn't know how he could make himself not think of Mal so he could choose the queen since he thinks of Mal. Every day, every hour and every minute.

Maybe he thinks that Mal was the rightful Queen.But he knows that he needs to listen to his heart. And he is.

The music was classic. Mal wasn't that interested in the music.She was looking at Ben, worried.

She knew Ben wasn't himself these few days. Even now. And what was going on in his mind?

 She had wondered. Could it be... that he was thinking about choosing the rightful queen and was worried about who he should be choosing. 

Even she herself wasn't worried about who he was going to choose, she just knew that he would listen to his heart. 

But she was worried about how she would live if she saw him walking around with another girl. And she couldn't live without him. But she would respect his decision regardlessly. 

They had just entered the ballroom and then a spotlight was on Mal and Ben and the announcer said, "Please welcome King Ben and his date, Mal with their other friends."

Everyone in the ballroom turned to where Ben was standing and bowed/curtsied. Ben was standing there awkwardly as he hasn't gotten used to the attention. Mal could sense his discomfort and intertwined her fingers between his and squeezed his hand, reassuring him. Then they started to descend the long flight of stairs to reach the dance floor. And since this ball was to pick the rightful queen, Ben has to dance with a lot of girls, including Mal.

The first girl to come up to Ben was Anastasia.

 She was wearing a short pink dress. Although Ben didn't want to dance with her, he had to. He was trying his best not to express his disgust when he held Anastasia's hand.
