"Are you alright?" Tonks asked carefully, gently putting a hand on her boyfriend's (it wasn't official or anything, but just presumed) shoulder. He snapped around to face her, eyes full of tears. At first Tonks pulled away, going to turn and head into the living room, but Remus slipped his fingers around her slim wrist and held her back. She held open her arms with a grim smile, welcoming him forward. He obliged immediately, pulling her in close and hiding in the crook of her neck, taking in a deep breath of her sweet scent. He leant back against the work surface that was behind him, her falling onto his chest.
"Why is it so painful?" He sobbed, shaking as each new wave of desperate tears swept over him, "I have nothing. Everything I love is taken from me. I've lost James, Lily, Sirius and now Albus. I don't have anything."
"You have me." She whispered in his ear, slightly tightening her grip around his shoulders, "I will never ever leave you. Remember that, please. As a promise."
"I love you." Remus said softly, "Thank you so much for... for everything." He still didn't understand how he had ended up there, with the girl he had never even dared to dream of. He trusted her with his life, she was incredibly beautiful, so funny, kind. Perfect. And she was finally his.
"What are you thanking me for?" She let out a small laugh, using a thumb to gently wipe away his tears, "I am only giving to you what you deserve. Love. I'm in love with you, couldn't deny it if I tried. Thank you Remus Lupin, for making me so happy."
Their lips met partway, sending ripples of heat through their skin. She tipped her head back slightly, slipping a hand up into his hair. It was all Remus could do to not let out a small whimper as she twirled a bit of the sandy brown in her slim fingers. So strong, timeless and passionate, it didn't take long for their air supply to dwindle.
A mere couple of intense moments later, Dora broke them apart, gasping for breath. She leant her head against Remus's chest, listening to the soft, slow thud of his heartbeat. His small tears fell gently onto her back, a new one springing from his chocolate brown eyes each second.
"We can't lose this war." He practically whispered, stroking her hair with his spare hand, "Everything would be destroyed. There would be nothing left. He's already tearing our lives apart and this is just a warm up. In a year or so, we'll all be fighting to the death."
"We're ready." She comforted him as best she could, pulling away so she could look him right in the eye, "You-Know-Who doesn't stand a chance. Like Albus says, we have love. Being there for each other is a power strong enough to bring him down. It brought us together after all."
"What good can he do?" Remus frowned, "Dumbledores dead. He's left us when we needed him most. A man we trusted killed him, I just don't know what to do."
"Have a rest." She suggested calmly, gently stroking his cheek with the back of one finger, "You're tired. A bit of sleep will perk you up."
"Stay with me." He sobbed, losing it again, "Please don't leave me alone. I... I... please."
"Always." She said seriously, though a weak smile played about her gleaming grey eyes as she took his hand in hers. They walked together into the small living room, Dora supporting him slightly around the waist and on her shoulder as he cried hysterically. They curled up together on the sofa, Remus lying his head down into her lap. Tears still streamed down his face, some wiped away by the girl above him. He studied her face up close, taking in every detail that so easily made up perfection. Her slim cheek bones, kissable red lips, framed eyes. His own personal garden of Eden, the place of so much breathtaking beauty he could watch it forever. The sobs in his throat gradually grew quieter and quieter, though the tears and occasional hiccup still remained.
