I inhaled the fresh crisp air as I walked up the steps of my sister's townhouse. It was mid February and it was still cold. I snuggled into my jacket as I rung the door bell. I looked into the crystal door frame and made out a small figure, then I heard the door open. "Hey G" she warmly smiled signaling me in, "welcome but of course you already knew that" she pushed me by my shoulders.
I looked around. The house was slightly different but still the same from the last time i'd been here. I walked myself into the living room looking around and stopping at a table with lots of family pictures. One had me, her, and Rick all hugging in front of the tree house my father built for us as children. I couldn't believe she still had these pictures. Others ones were from her own little family meaning Her, Nathan, and little baby Jordan. Of course he wasn't little anymore he looked about 3 now.
I felt a stray tear sneak down my cheek as I immediately wiped it off. "G i know you're emotional its okay you dont have to be tough with me i know you more than anyone knows you" she said coming closer and resting her hand on my shoulder. "come sit down and talk to me about everything thats happend" she said as we walked towards the soft caramel sofas. I took a deep breath and began telling her everything that happened from the time i got there up till now.
---------------------
"i cant believe you went through that I-I i just cant picture that" She said breaking down crying. "M-My baby sister was a stripper and she got rapped by some animal!" she cried louder. "Jen im okay i made it here just fine" i said trying to console her. Truth is i didn't know myself if I was okay.
"I'm just so thankful that you made it safe" She rubbed my cheek. "Yea. I'm fine" I lied. "but let's just focus on going forward not back. I'm thankful that your back" she smiled rubbing my knee. "I'm glad to be back too" I smiled nervously.
"I'm sorry to ask but who was that guy sitting at the table yesterday?" She inquired. "he- he's a friend" i trailed off but then she gave me a look like she knew i was lying. "Is he? Or is it deeper than that?" she said eyeing me. "its complicated. i dont even know what or who we are" i said playing with my fingers.
"Well he looks like he cares about you. Have you told him any of the things you've told me? was he there with you when all this went down?" I shook my head, "he doesn't know anything not even my real name. And I met him at the hospital after I got jumped" I said.
She kissed her teeth, "I can't imagine all those things. I-It's to hard" she shook her head. "you know not one day went by without me thinking about you, Jordan, Rick or Nathan. I always thought about you guys. I wanted to call you but I didn't know where or how I could reach you. I didn't know if you guys forgot about me and changed your numbers" I said with tears in my eyes.
She reached for my shoulders and pulled me into a deep hug. "I would never, you hear me? Never forget about my baby sister. I prayed every night for you to come home safe" We hugged for a while until I heard the door open. "Jen?" A woman's voice said coming thru the kitchen. My eyes shot up once I saw who she was. My mother.
We got up as soon as she entered the living area. "Gia?" She furrowed her eyebrows. "w-what are you doing here?" She angrily stated. I was about to answer when Jen interrupted, "I found her. She came here to talk to me" she cleared stated.
"oh is that so? So now you're picking up charity cases." she expressed with an evil expression. "why would you call your own daughter that? Is it because she was smart enough to not follow the path you set out for her since she was born? Don't think I don't remember mom" Jen said pointing at her. I looked at my mom who now had a blank expression as if she just saw a ghost.
"Mom is that true? Your mad because I didn't follow the dreams you had for me? H-how could you? Is that why you like Jen more than me and Rick? Because she became a lawyer just like dad?!" I said beginning to get angry.
I shook my head, "and to think that I once saw you as a role model?" I felt tears start to come down. "oh don't you start putting on a show" she waved me off. "Putting on a show? Seriously?!" I wiped the tears away, "mom I-"
"Don't call me mom" she raised her hand. "what?" Me and Jen said in unison. "You keep saying I'm not your daughter? Why? Is there something that I need to know?" I asked wiping the tears of my face.
She nodded her head, "as you heard I'm not your mother. I was going to let you know before you left but I kept it to myself. Your adopted. Your real mother abandoned you outside my house. She was a dead beat girl and couldn't afford to take care of you. I gave her the option to leave you with me." she said without an ounce of remorse.
"Guess she didn't want... you" She shrugged with her arms crossed. As soon as those words came out of her mouth I lunged at her. "HOW COULD YOU SAY THAT ABOUT MY MOTHER!!!!!!" I screamed shaking her by her shoulders. "G stop!" Jen said holding me back. "oh my god look what Chicago did to you" she pointed out in discuss.
"Thank god your not my daughter." she said as she picked up her Michael Kors purse and walked into the kitchen exiting thru the back door.
"Jen did you know about this?" I said turning around about ready to ball my eyes out. She hesitated in answering. "you know what I'll take that as a yes. I'm so done with this family!" I said storming out the house.
I sat outside on the curb waiting for my über to come when Jen walked up. "I'm sorry G I-" she said sitting down beside me and turning to me. I put my hand up, "you know what Jen all my life I thought mo-I mean that woman, that man and you were everything to me but now I realize how stupid I was for believing that. You know now that I think about it, it was better for me to leave because who knows where I would be right now" I said getting up and walking up to my über.
"No G wait!" She got up but I closed the door and signaled the driver to start up the car. I looked down at my lap and let some tears run down then cleaned them up.
Was this really the truth?
-Did y'all see how Gia's mom treated her? And she's adopted?! Wtf?!
-Y'all think she's really adopted or her "mom" is hiding something deeper?
