He pulled himself up on the bar into total concentration. His record and the number he was on were so close there was no point in quitting now. Leave me be! His muscles screeched. In hearing their voices he breathed a slow breath and pushed himself further and assure them that it as only a practice. His arms quivered. Not yet. He assured.
Sebastian strained as he continued to pull himself up. Doctor shook his head with a sigh. Even though he saw this before he called his best friend his best friend the guy could do this multiple times in the past yet he still couldn't believe how much concentration he would put into it. What was even worse was when he wasn't concentrating. Doctor's own muscle's commented as he did his push ups subconsciously. Doctor laughed. Oh hell he thought. Don't even get me started. He smiled.
For the past year Sebastien and Doctor had acquired a friendship like no other. Outside of the weight room the two never had a second thought of hanging around each other. It was just impossible. The friends they had prevented that, and, in the past, they even thought of each other in disgust. Then came the day they were placed on the same team for power lifting--the two had to talk then.
The friendship started out slow. Exchanging glances was how it started since neither of the two were up for much talk. They were both known as quiet and they both admitted that they were. Smiles would then be exchanged next. The two still stayed separate at this point but with more acknowledgement they began to notice each others abilities. They started with a simple push to get each other to do better by lifting their max at least twice every day when they were around each other to start a rivalry.
At first, Doctor thought Sebastien was stuck up. When he started every day with his max and ended every day with lifting his max, Doctor wouldn't help but snarl. He couldn't be shown up. Once Doctor maxed out twice to show Sebastien up though, Doctor could see that all Sebastien wanted was a rival. Gleefully, as he added another ten pounds to his max, Doctor grinned and Sebastien gave him a slow nod in realizing Doctor's response to the challenge.
The two had the same max. Sebastien hated that. He loved the fact that they were equal but he also despised it because what he wanted was more. After seeing Doctor muster the strength to lift ten more pounds than their max Sebastien smiled, he knew he would have fun with this. Daringly, he added fifteen to each side. This was going to be a breath taker. In response to the addition, his muscles ached. No. Sebastien thought. I'm not done yet.
Doctor watched in amusement as his newly acquainted rival added fifteen to each side. Sebastien was about to lift thirty more pounds then their max and as Sebastien laid down to place himself Doctor couldn't help but stand at Sebastien's side to assure that what he just made Sebastien do wouldn't completely knock him out. A smirk appeared on Doctor's face as Sebastien lifted the new max. "Alright," Doctor grinned, "I acknowledge you."
Sebastien let the bar set in resting place as he breathed in hard. One more time. He thought to himself as he placed his hands on the bar. Wide eyed, Doctor watched Sebastien as he placed his hands on the bar.
"No." Sebastien heard a concerned voice enter his mind. Hands on the bar, Sebastien looked at its beholder. It was his new rival. He and Sebastien never said a word. That's what made the friendship in the first place, the wordless communication they had was what he noted the man for and now, now he spoke. For the first time in their friendship, his rival spoke and spoke in concern. It was just a smile word but it meant so much.
Sebastien's eyes met his rival's, "It's Doctor isn't it?"
Doctor nodded, "And you're Sebastien aren't you?"
Sebastien nodded, "Why not?" He said as he let his hands grip the bar but didn't move them.
"You set our new max." Doctor said slowly. Sebastien could tell that he as picking his words wisely, "There's always tomorrow." Sebastien's eyes never left Doctor's as he continued, "Don't rush it."
