He imprinted her.

I'm almost blind with rage. It had disappeared before we'd even gotten to the lake, but I could still feel it, ruining her orange glow. It felt like insects crawling over my skin every time I touched her.

He's going to pay.

No. I can't do anything to that bastard. I promised her I wouldn't fight with him
anymore, and I'd meant it.

I'm just afraid to lose her.

I know that even after her intoxicating glow dissipates, I will still love her. I accidently fell in love with her, and honestly, I'm not sorry.

Mother will be happy. I smile. So will Aunt Hathor. Hathor isn't really my aunt, but she helped Thoth and Osiris raise me. She's like an aunt to me.

"Anubis? Are you in here?"

A moment later, my blue-skinned uncle enters the room I'm pacing in. He looks around, as if expecting something. "Thank you for not destroying this room," Uncle Osiris says, and I can't tell if he's joking or not.

"What's up, Uncle?" I ask.

He comes towards me and places his hands on my shoulders. "I heard you like the God Wife," he says softly, "And I heard my son imprinted her." I wince, and my uncle pulls me in for a hug. "I'm sorry."

I shake my head. "It's fine," I say into his chest. "Did he tell you himself?"

"Yes." Osiris pulls away and looks at me. "Now, I am very proud of my son, of course. But he shouldn't have done that. It was unfair-"

"It's fine, Uncle," I insist, but inside it feels like my organs are moving to all of the wrong places.

My uncle looks at me suspiciously, as if he knows the fatal dance going on inside me. "Are you sure?" He asks.

I open my mouth to once again insist it's fine, but I get a better idea. "The next time you see Horus," I say, grinning broadly, "Would you tell him that his imprints are weak and need work? I'm not sure how long she had it, but once she was with me, it wiped right off."

Uncle Osiris looks at me with surprise before bursting into laughter. "There's the god I raised!" He cries, ruffling my hair. "Stand up for yourself and what you love, that's how it's done in Egypt." He laughs again when he sees the expression on my face. "Oh, don't look so surprised. Hathor told me you love her, both because of the glow and because of, you know, her." He pats my back and turns to leave. "I'll pass along the message."

As he leaves, I make a promise to myself.

Talk to Aunt Hathor about secrets.
