Riley POV:
James asks me what the kiss meant to me. And the truth is, I don't know. I was with Max, and I really thought I loved Max, but then he changed. He started to hurt me, start to be over protective, shouting at James and trying to annoy him and hurt him too. So now I don't know where I stand with either of them.Because I know how much I ruined James when I told him I didn't love him. So how do I know if he still loves me?
I look up at James and I see in his eyes sorrow. He sighs.
"It meant something to me Riley. Because you didn't pull away." James admits.
There is a few moments of silence, as I turn my head and look at the floor, biting my lip. Until James takes my chin and puts my head up, so we are inches away and looking directly at each other.
"Then it did mean something to me," I say, moving my head closer to his, "James..."
Our lips are gently touching- when my phone rings and I move away abruptly. It's an unknown number.
"Hello?" I say. James mouths at me: Who Is It? so I shrug.
"It's Leah." Leah tells us, as I've just put my phone on speaker phone.
"Oh no..." James looks at me panicked, like he knows something.
"So did you think it would be funny to leave me in the cafe on Friday huh James? We had a deal, and you stood me up." Leah screeches.
"Oh my God, Leah I forgot I-"
"And then you wont even pick up when I call you? You think I'm a joke, huh?" She continues, shouting down the phone.
"What are you on about?" I add in, confused about what's going on.
"Me and James were supposed to be going on a date at six o'clock on Friday in the cafe, but he stood me up." She replies.
I look at James, and he mouths at me again: Let me explain in a second. so I nod at him.
"Leah we have to go now, see you at dance on Monday bye!" James calls quickly.
"Wait but-" and James disconnects the phone.
James POV:
I actually completely forgot I was supposed to meet Leah! She's going to have in in for me on Monday, never mind how she's going to affect Riley and I.Riley looks at me and raises her eyebrows, moving away from me slightly.
"Explain...?" She lowers her eyebrows and takes a deep breathe in.
"Basically," I begin, knowing Riley won't take this well, "I agreed to go on a date with Leah, so she wouldn't tell you about the kiss. But she told you, so I didn't show up."
"Don't you think that's a little harsh?!" Riley exclaims, sitting up and widening her eyes.
I'm shocked, I thought Riley would be mad with Leah, but she's mad at me!
I move her hair to behind her ears and hold her face- but she pushes my hand away instantly.
"Leah is a good person, I swear she is. She's just... finding herself. She doesn't know anyone and she's trying to sort through everyone at The Next Step. She would've made her self up and dressed up and then just sat there, alone! And you think that's fair?! Why didn't you just tell her you weren't going, James?" Riley complains, shaking her head at me.
"Riley, I thought you hated her! I thought it would be a good idea to leave her, after she kissed me-"
"And you enjoyed the kiss. She told me everything James," Riley goes quiet, sounding sad as the sighs and looks at the floor, "you can erm," she stumbles on her words, "you can leave now." she says glumly, pointing towards the door.
So I do as she says. I stand up and walk to the door, looking back to see that she hasn't even given me a second glance, she just keeps staring at the floor.
Riley POV:
I- I don't understand who would do that to someone. Stand them up, I mean. Leah is my friend. My good friend. And I trust in her, that she will settle down soon. I bet she already has in fact.+ The Next Day +
I wake up, feeling drowsy, and look into the mirror beside my bed, to see that I must have been crying last night before I went to sleep. Surely not about James... It must have been about losing Max.
I slowly sit myself up and check my phone to see I have a text from my mom.
Hey Ri!
Sorry Honey, but your father and I have had to rush off quickly to Nana's house; she's had a small fall, but it's nothing major and she's okay.
More to the point, you're going to have to find somebody else to take you to dance.
Love you Honey!From: Mom x
Oh great. So I have an hour to get changed and find another way to dance?! So my first option would be Michelle, but she flew to London this morning, so she can't take me.
I scroll through my contacts, until I land on James. And I guess he is my only hope right now.
I start calling him, until he eventually picks up.
"Hey Riles, I'm sorry about last night, I-" He starts.
"No, I just need you to give me lift to dance this morning if you can." I tell him.
"Yeah no problem babe-"
"Don't call me that." and I hang up on him.
So now I have a lift. Awesome.
James POV:
I pull up outside Ri's house and beep the horn, and straight away she comes out of the house, in her dance attire, with a big jumper over the top.She pulls open the car door, not saying a word.
"Hey," I try, looking at her, but she just stares out of the window, ignoring me, "are you going to talk to me?"
But still, silence.
Silence all the way to the studio.
When we pull up, she gets out straight away and shuts the door in my face, leaving me sat there, shocked and annoyed.
Why is she being like this?
Surely not because of Leah...?
When I walk into studio A, I see Riley is already with Leah at the other side of the studio, giggling and smiling with her, and occasionally looking at me.
I'm sort of in a trance until West jumps on my back, causing me to laugh.
"Hey bro, wassup?" West says, pushing my shoulder.
"I'm not good bro," I reply, "it's Riley."
"Man, let her go, she's only ever been trouble to you. Go back to Steph. I would kill for her to want to date me."
"I'M NEVER GETTING BACK WITH STEPHANIE!" I shout, glaring West in the eyes.
"Okay bro, chill, chill-"
"Dancers, gather round please!" Miss Kate shouts, looking at Riley, "Riley studio B is free for you to practise your solo." Miss Kate tells her, so Riley runs to Studio B, "so, the competition at Carmichael's is on Wednesday, and I'd likel us all to go and support Riley. It's the same time as Rehearsal is, and we will all meet outside the reception door at Carmichael's. That's all." And she ushers us all back to whatever we were doing before.
