1:50 am

The room was dark.

Only the faint city lights slipped through the curtains, painting silver shadows across the bedroom walls.

Y/N laid stiffly on her side of the bed, staring at the ceiling while Jungkook's quiet breathing filled the silence between them.

Or maybe he wasn't asleep.

She couldn't tell. With him, she could never tell. Her fingers twisted nervously inside the blanket.

That soft "goodnight, y/n" kept replaying inside her head over and over again.

It sounded gentle.

Too gentle.

And somehow that scared her more than his coldness. Because every tiny softness from him felt dangerous. Like standing too close to fire during winter. Comforting enough to make you forget it could burn you alive.

Y/N slowly turned her head. Jungkook was still laying beside her, one arm resting behind his head, eyes closed.

His chest rose and fell steadily.

Beautiful.

Perfect.

Untouchable.

The moonlight traced every sharp angle of his face, making him look unreal. Like a man made from all the cruel things women fall in love with.

She hated how much she wanted him. Not just physically.

She wanted his attention.
His warmth.
His voice when it softened unexpectedly.

She wanted all the parts of him he refused to give her. And maybe that was the saddest part.

"You're staring." Y/N froze instantly.

Jungkook's eyes opened slowly without turning his head.

Caught.

Heat rushed to her face immediately. "I-I wasn't." A faint smirk tugged at the corner of his lips. It disappeared too quickly.

"Liar."

Her heartbeat stumbled. Because this- . This was the most normal conversation they'd ever had.

No yelling.
No hatred.
No sharp words designed to wound.

Just darkness.
Silence.
And him.

Y/N swallowed nervously. "Can't sleep?"

"Mm."

"Because of work?" Jungkook stayed quiet for a moment.
