Unexpected Love

The nursery

Maddie's pov:

I still can't believe zack would do this for me... "hey Mr. Moseby." "Hello maddie... I see zack told you about his mystery project for you..." he said. "Wait... zack did this by himself?" "Yeah... he worked on it all night didn't even sleep yet..." he said. "That's so sweet..." "he can be a pain in the ass, but a great guy when it comes to you..." he said. And he was right... he was always a great guy to me... I went to my dorm after my shift and laid down. Cody came in to talk to bailey who was painting her nails. "Hey cody.." "hey mads.." he said. "Have you seen zack? I want to thank him for the counter again..." "he is in the nursery taking care of the newborns..." he said. What.... zack... I've never pictured him taking care of babies for free. I walked into the nursery and zack was changing diapers and playing with some babies. He started to feed this adorable newborn and he was smiling... "hey zack..." "oh... hey maddie... what are you doing here?" He said. "I just wanted to thank you again..." "no problem..." he said. He was putting the baby down to sleep and another baby started to cry. He held the baby and started to rock him. "Do you wanna hold him?" He asked. "Ummm.... I don't know..." "what... you've never held a baby before?" He said. "No I have its just... they know you more..." "they're babies they don't even remember me..." he said. He handed the baby over to me and he smiled. The baby grabbed my index finger and just held it in his little hand. Zack smiled at that moment. "See... he likes you... he only holds someone's finger if he trusts them..." he said. "What's his name?" "Conner. He is about 3 weeks old..." he said. After I put conner down we walked around the nursery. After that he said he had to go upstairs to play with the toddlers. I decided I wanted to go and see what it looks like. We walked into this huge room with toys and games and a table for arts and crafts. "Zacky!!!!" All the kids screamed. "Hey guys! I want you to meet my friend maddie..." he said to the 5 year olds. "Is she your girlfriend?" One of the kids asked. "Ummm... no... no josh she is not my girlfriend..." he said. Zack asked me if I could read them a story for a while. I didn't mind since I used to work at the daycare at the Tipton Hotel. As I grabbed a book I looked over at zack and he was playing and taking care of some of the kids. Some of the kids had down syndrome, others autism and even cerebral pulzey. He talked with one of the kids who he seemed to be attached to. Zack walked over to me after I read the story and he said he wanted to introduce me to someone. "Tyler this is my friend maddie from the tipton hotel... maddie this is my friend tyler..." he said. "Hi tyler... nice to meet you." "Hi maddie... your prettier than zack said." "Tyler... really...." zack said kind of embarrassed. "Thank you tyler... how long have you know zack?" "About a year and a half." He said. "How old are you?" "I'm 15... I help out here too..." he said. A lady came by and started to talk to tyler. "Oh hi Mrs. Swanson... maddie this is Tyler's mom... Mrs. Swanson this is my friend maddie..." zack said. "Oh hi maddie it's nice to finally meet the girl that zachary here doesn't stop talking about..." she said. I looked at zack and he had his head in his hand... I chuckled... "come on tyler we have to do some more chemo..." she said. After they left we stayed at the daycare for 30 minutes and then zack and I walked around the boat. "So zack... how did you meet tyler?" "We were both at the gym and I played basketball with him for a while... we hung out a couple times and I tutored him... he got even more sick and he started to need a wheel chair. I told him to start working at the daycare because it is a relaxing when you are playing with kids. I grew very fond of him..." He said. "What's wrong with him?" "He.... he has a brain tumor...." he said while choking up the tears that are starting to form in his eyes. "The doctors told him that he has less than a year.... he really inspires me...." he said. "I can tell he looks up to you...." I said as I hugged him.

Zack's pov:

Maddie hugged me and I felt like all the bull shit was gone. "No maddie.... I look up to him...." I said while resting my head on her shoulder. We started to walk again and I realized that I had to get to the sky deck to perform. Maddie sat with london and bailey and I got on stage with the rest of my band. "Hey everybody... our first song is called uma thurman by fall out boy." We sang a couple of songs and I went over to the dinner bar to get some food. We ate some lobster and chinesse. I couldn't stop laughing at maddie trying to use chopsticks. "Here maddie... hold this one like a pencil and then place your other chopstick on top and start moving your fingers." I took my hand off of hers so she can try. She almost dropped a sushi roll and I caught it with my chopsticks and I fed it to her. I looked at the table and everyone was staring at me... cody was mouthing the words 'thirsty' and I kicked him under the table. After dinner we all headed to the girls room to hang out. We all sat on the floor and decided to play truth or dare.
