My baby girl was growing so much, so fast. The doctors kept telling me how she'd be a really big newborn. She was really big for a 7 & a half month old. Usually babies don't get this big in the womb. But I was happy about her being a fat baby, I loved cuddling chubby babies. I was born super skinny, so I'm happy she wouldn't take after me.
The whole time I had been pregnant, I never really went shopping for my daughter. Nani got movers to empty out one of the guest rooms & put all the stuff in storage. But I never had time to put anything in the room. I only had a month or two left to prepare for this kid, I had to get moving. So Cortez & Bailey were taking me to to the Babies R' Us in town to buy a crib & anything else furniture wise to put in the baby's room.
This weekend, Lea & Alani were throwing me a baby shower up at their house in Fort Meyers. Some of Nani's family would be attending & her closest friends were going too. Lea told me I could invite all my family & that she'd pay for their airfare. I mentioned it to my mother but she was really hesitant. So was Mo, he wasn't sure about mixing with Nani's family.

I wanted to understand how they felt but I just couldn't. I wanted to understand how they could even have a second thought about my baby shower. All I knew was, if they didn't come I would be super upset. Regardless of how they felt about Nani, they should come support me.
Typical of my family, to jump ship as soon as I do something they don't agree with. I was just tired of their bullshit, so I wasn't paying it much mind.

The furniture section was empty so I was the only person browsing in that section. I had my eye on this mahogany wood crib. Dark furniture was so classy looking & I wanted my daughter's room to be neutral so it had the ability to grow with her. It would be a pain in the ass to be redoing her room every 5 years. With the color scheme I was cooking up, she'll pretty much have the same room until she was 12.
Cortez snuck up behind me while I was checking a price. He scared the living shit out of me; my water damn near broke.
"What the hell is wrong with you?" I hissed.
"Relax," He teased me.
"Wheres Bailey?"
"I left his ass by the baby clothes, I got bored."
"Oh my God, you're horrible. How is he supposed to navigate this store?"
"The same way I did,"

I chuckled under my breath as I continued to check different bedding sets.
"Should I get the zoo themed sheets or this autumn themed set?" I inquired.
"Get them both, you're gonna need to change the sheets eventually." Cortez replied.
"Probably sooner than I think,"
"Why do you sound like that?"
"Sound like what?"
"Like you're not excited, almost like you're dreading the baby."

That was insane to me how Cortez could pick up on my emotions like that.
"I'm happy for the baby, I'm just worried. What if, God forbid, I kill her? I never took care of a baby a day in my life." I complained.
"No one in your family had babies?" Cortez questioned.
"They did but I never babysat or anything. I just play with them for a few minutes then give them back."
"Damn, even I know how to take care of a baby."

Cortez kind of laughed at me which made me even more nervous. He's probably the better parent for my little girl, to be honest.
"Thats not funny! I'm really scared, this is important to me." I whined.
"Don't freak out, Nani is great at taking care of babies. On top of that, Miss Lea is there for you. You're not on your own, stop acting like you are." Cortez assured me.
"Its hard not to act that way. I always had to do shit on my own,"
"Yeah, Nani told me you got some major family issues."
"We have more issues than Vogue, okay?" I joked.

Cortez shook his head at me. I made him go find a Sales Associate, mainly because I didn't want to talk about my family anymore but also because I wanted to buy this crib & these bedding sets. When the associate arrived to assist me, she gave me this crooked look. She glared at me up & down. I guess it was because of how I was dressed, compared to Cortez & Bailey who had finally found his way over to us. They looked really nice; dressy casual. Me on the other hand, I looked like I just rolled out of bed. To be honest, I only woke up an hour before coming here. But c'mon I was pregnant, very pregnant. Did this bitch want me to be red carpet ready? Honestly, what did she expect? Sheesh.
Her dirty looks weren't even the worst part. When I explained to her that I wanted the crib, the bedding sets & a few other electronics I had seen around the store she looked at me sideways again. She then proceeded to come out of her face.

"Are you sure? I mean that's a whole lot," She remarked.
"Yeah but babies need a whole lot, right? You should know that," I replied.
"Yes but do you really need it all right now? You can come get some of these things after the baby is born."
"I don't need to, now can you please get somebody to help me with the things I need?"

She nodded quickly & scurried off. I could tell she got intimidated once my tone got elevated. I wasn't in the mood for anybody's bullshit. Especially not some prejudiced asshole like her. This bitch took one look at me & decided that I couldn't afford all the shit I was asking for. I'll take Nani's credit card & buy this whole fucking store. These bitches don't know how reckless I am!
