Not So Cliche

I am not American, but then again you don't need to be one to understand their culture as it seems to kinda be dominating the world.

Everybody (especially wattpad readers) knows about or has a notion of the whole classic college experience. The whole "party experience" and of course the fact that sports and more precisely American football is worshiped. Now, that may be a stereotype but I can't really prove that it isn't.

Now don't get me wrong, I LOVE myself some stereotypical cliche from time to time, more than I might like to admit. But this book is the U.S. University cliche but at the same time it soooooo much more.

The book in question is called "Hustle" by author Ashley Claudy or AYClaudy here on wattpad.

Now when you read the description, you automatically think that it's going to be a typical bad boy good girl kind of book. Which it is in some ways. However, when you start reading the story itself, it is clear that it is so much more than that.

Yes, the book is centered around a bad boy who is trying to get into the pants of the good girl. However the characters are not two dimensional, they have a lot more depth. Their past, their future and their present seem to merge to create and story-line that you would not expect front this kind of book. I honestly started it thinking it would be an easy, cliche book to read. I was more than pleasantly surprised when the story progressed into something more complex and just as enjoyable! I devoured this book in two days, I was so into it!

I really like how this book talks about real life issues as well as this fantasy happy ending style that I seem to look for in books. Claudy makes this amalgam work so well! Most times you have one or the other, but here both are so well put together that it seems to only make the book better.
In my humble opinion Claudy perfectly captures the university lifestyle. She writes in a way that is both relate-able and at the same time unrealistically like those popular college movies.

Like most other books, the love interest is described as "hot" and "good looking", but what stood out to me the most is that Andrew's character isn't the most appealing personality wise. At least for me. I didn't really see myself routing for his character until the last few chapters. That was refreshing, the main character isn't seen as a hero but as a normal young adult who has good as well as bad sides. I also like how the "good girl" wasn't a typical one. Brook's character is not stuck up or naive or any of those typical things, she just seems to be a real genuine person. Which again is a refreshing change in this type of protagonist.

This isn't a young adult novel for nothing. There are sexy times in this book, none of them are overly descriptive. For someone (me) who isn't bothered with sex scenes in books, Claudy has perfectly been able to make the right balance of  not too much and not enough. Then again that's my opinion. If you're a little squeamish about these scenes you could just skip them I guess (even though they kind of sometimes carry the plot forward).

The spelling and grammar are more than satisfactory, no flagrant mistakes or anything that make books on wattpad hard to read.

I honestly enjoyed the shizz out of this book, it was awesome and I highly recommend reading it! It's the perfect blend between predictable and surprising! A definite must read! And i'm also going to read "Ride" and "It Goes On" from Claudy as well!

Anyways, I'm out!

Little update! Hustle won't be available on wattpad for long! It's being published. Big congrats to AYClaudy . Her story clearly deserves it! So I think I'm gonna read it one more time before it's taken down 😋
