In Love With The Best Friend Or Not?

So for this "chapter", I'd like to talk about a book called "The Senator's Son" by AnnaAlbo.

I've got to honestly say that this book has been one of my recent favorites. It does this one thing that I keep talking about again and again. The fact that it seems like its going to be one of those typical stories but completely takes you by surprise as the story progresses.

(I'm really loving this multimedia thing)

Yeah...THAT kind of surprise... Or maybe that was just me... OK I might be over dramatizing this.

But here is the reason why it was so "surprising". Starting the story I thought it was going to be a classic "girl loves best friend, he doesn't notice, some s**t happens and he finally realizes that she is the one for him". Well turns out this book is NOT like that at all. Turns out that in this story the best friend is a glorified a-hole, which I won't go into details about.

Honestly the whole best friend love thing is awesome, I mean it's one of those cliches that will never truly become a cliche because it never gets old (at least for me, tell me if you agree).

Concretely what AnnaAlbo has done is take that best friend love idea and specifically not run with it. Which is A-MAZING.

When I started reading, I thought the premise would be more along the lines of a love triangle between the golden boy best friend and the d-bag senator's son. That is if we run with stereotypes. So I get to the second, third, forth chapters and I'm like...

So then, I started using my brain again and stopped just mindlessly reading stories on Wattpad to pass time (sorry

I have to praise AnnaAlbo for her creativity, and original story line. Pleasant surprises peeps! Wattpad is full of 'em!!

The story in itself is honestly not that complicated plot-wise (not a bad thing). I'm not going to tell you guys what exactly happens but be sure that it takes you by surprise (a word I have used way to much in this chapter).

This story is about growth and maturing as well as standing up for oneself while finding yourself and finding someone else too (romantically). The character growth and development for not only Emma as a main character but also for the supporting characters is simply genius. The plot is just full of things that you wouldn't find in a "traditional" story line.

I find the story itself very true to people nowadays and a very modernized telling of basic issues that us readers are accustomed to. Simply refreshing (said in a British accent).

While reading this, I found myself recognizing my own characteristics in Emma. The way she seems to always see the good in everyone until she has solid evidence of the contrary. Her naivety is not a "turn off" for the character but another way of portraying her innocence. Which if I do say so myself is a major reason why this story works so well. The plot from the very first chapter seems to take Emma by storm and completely destabilize her in a way that allows the story to be anything AnnaAlbo wants it to be. It kind of feels like the world as she knows it, is being ripped from under Emma's very feet and there is nothing she can do about it but try to make the best of the situation.

At the other end of the spectrum, you have the other lead character, Zach. He is definitely also taken out of his comfort zone and confronted with these issues and situations that form at the very beginning. This translate as a complete dark hole concerning what happens next. You can only play the guessing game and what happens in this book is definitely better than anything I could ever come up with. It seems like both characters and plot are blank canvases, there is no stereotype or predictability. AnnaAlbo achieves this without the story being too complicated or plain confusing. Props to you! *tilts off my hat*

The writing itself is simply delightful to read. No blatant mistakes, no usage of unnecessary language or shortenings of any kind. However at the same time there isn't any overly complicated language. Overall very enjoyable to read.

Concerning the sexy times in this book, they aren't really present until the end. Even though I DO like some details in my books, I think that the fact that these specific scenes not appearing sooner just adds to Emma's and Zach's characters.

Bottom line is, great plot, great development, great characters, great language just all around great book!

Read it!

Also, I've started the sequel and even though it is not yet complete it still is amazing so far! So check that out too!!
