I had never imagined myself to be so much in love with someone that each breath feels like a thousand spears piercing my chest. Perhaps a change of pace would do me some good.
While I was lying down in this big villa, all I could remember was how it did not belong to me. It was midnight when I sprang up off my bed, driven by the emotions. I drove my car to the place where I first saw Accalia and then headed inside towards the werewolf village. I was able to recognise my way back because the last time I was shown the path, I noticed how each tree has a distinct mark 30 feet above the ground.
I stood before the giant wooden gates and requested an audience with their alpha. The guards recognised me. I had walked across the walls during my stay in the village. However, as I was a human and was not accompanied by Accalia, I was forbidden from entering the village. I continued to plead for an audience with the Chief as I have something that I would like to give him. I urged the guards to talk to the chief. I would not mind meeting him outside. I told them that I was waiting at the same spot where Chief had met me the first time, and went back to my car. An hour and a half later, I heard a knock on my window. I woke up from my nap to notice Alpha with his subordinates. I stepped out of the car and handed him the keys to the villa. I informed him that Accalia and I are no longer together, and I do not hold the rights to the villa, as it was bought with their help. Chief accepted my logic and asked me to revisit the same location after a week. "I want to give you back the money you invested in the house", said Alpha. I nodded and went to a motel. I rented the smallest and cheapest room there and spent the night. I do not have any money to make a deposit and rent a new place. After spending the entire night pondering how I was going to live my life, I decided to live out of my car. The next morning, I took a nice hot shower, wore fresh clothes, cleaned my car and went to work. From then onwards, I would sleep in my car, parked in the parking space of my organisation, bathe and brush in the men's toilet. I would keep working till late so that no one notices me sleeping in my car.
A week later, I reached the spot at the agreed time and waited for Alpha. He handed me a suitcase full of hard cash. "The money you invested in the house, and some compensation from our side for the hardship you had to go through since you have been exposed to this side of the world. We wish you return to the normal world and forget about this ever happened." I smiled at Alpha. I did not know what to reply to his request. It was something easier said than done. How can one forget about the person they loved so much?
Every moment I spent in the city, I yearned to go and look for Accalia. But I knew she did not want to see me, so I stayed put. The money Alpha had given me, I invested it all in buying a new apartment in the city close to the market area. It was in one of the most popular areas. I loaned some money from the bank and for the first time in my life, bought life insurance. That is a popular piece of advice most financial advisors give to their clients. One should buy a life insurance equivalent or exceeding the amount of their debt, and so I did. With that, I had even less money being added to my account as a salary. I did not mind that. A lone man in a concrete jungle doesn't need much to survive. I was surviving.
A month has passed since I started living in my car. My expenses are at their lowest in years. I don't spend money on rent, bills or any unnecessary things. I wouldn't say that I am happy living this way but I am surviving.
Today, at work, I saw an opening in another department, in another city and I thought to myself, how wonderful it would be to change cities, to go to a new place where nobody knew me. Everyone will stop asking if I am okay, if I am doing well. I will be accepted as I am. Sick, sad, and depressed. I applied for it.
I shipped all my belongings to my hometown to my parents' house. They were happy to see me. I informed them that I have switched roles and will now be working in a new town. They celebrated it with me. They did notice the change in my physical appearance but accepted my reason when I attributed it to work-related stress. I hid my mental struggles from them. What could I have told them? I am not happy because the girl I loved so dearly left me.
I stayed home for a week, enjoying my mother's home cooking and my father's company. It's Sunday night, and tomorrow morning, I am supposed to leave for a new job. I eat a melatonin gummy, which helps me sleep. And before snoozing off, I took an empty injection and put the air into my heart.
Now, let me close my eyes and sleep peacefully. Before the sun rises, I will leave on a different journey.
