In the universe there exists different worlds. Beings of great power, gem's worth more than all the money in the world. Rivers flowing with rich cool waters. The air smells of flowers and fallen fruits. Some worlds are bright an welcoming, others are dark and filled with hate and anger. There was peace that kept these worlds in balance. No one world would rule over the others. That was the first rule of these worlds. But one day the most unexpected thing happened, a boy not even the age of 20 came across a rare an dangerous power. Dark magic. It consumed him an he tried to take the worlds all for himself, to rule as the king of all the lands. He killed anyone who stood in his way, his name was Malistair. He believe that all the worlds should be filled with darkness. For thousands of years he ruled punishing the poor and the weak. But there lay a prophecy that tells of two unlikely hero's who will cleanse the worlds of evil. The hero's will be twins, twin boys to be more specific. One daring and free spirited, the other smart an cunning. But both will be strong and have tremendous power. They'll fight as one, live as one, and they'll die as one. Malistair knows of this prophecy and he watches an waits for any signs of the hero's that are foretold. He waits for the day when he will rip their hearts out of their very chests, and kill them.
"Lucid! I can't keep up!" I ran after him as fast as my legs could carry me. Dodging past people, carts, horses, and boxes as we ran through the city. "Lucid! Big brother wait!" I pushed an shoved as his silver head went in an out of my sight. Suddenly I couldn't see it anymore. I turned an circles searching for his head, I couldn't see him. I fell to my knees an cried. Then I screamed his name, "LUCID!" Some one grabbed my wrist an hoisted me to my feet. They wiped the tears off my cheeks an smiled softly at me. "I'm sorry Nyctalgia I should have slowed down. I didn't mean to leave you behind." He held my hand an I dried my eyes with my sleeve, "Mom said we should always stick together." He nodded, "I know, but I didn't realize how thick the crowd was. You could get stuck in it so easily today." I nodded my head my eyes puffy an red from crying. "Now let's get home to mom." He grasped my hand as we ran down the cobblestone streets. We were mere children at the time, innocent and unknowing of the cruel facts of life. We were only eight years old after all. But everything changed as soon as we got home that night.
"Mom! Mommy! We're home!" We laughed as we jumped over the fence an ran through the grass in our front yard. We burst through the door and yelled for our mom again as we threw off our shoes. She didn't answer, but we could hear the stove boiling water in a pot so we though she might be in the kitchen. We ran to the kitchen door and pulled it open, "Mom we are back with th..." We both dropped the small packages we were holding and stood their in horror. Our mother lay sprawled in a pool of blood on the floor. "M..mom?" We walked cautiously over to her wondering if she could still be alive. When we were about a foot away from her she groaned an slowly reached out her hand to us. "L..lucid...Nyctalgia..." We took hold of her pale hand even though we were afraid to touch her as she lay there dying. "Mom don't die...please..." Tears started to form in our eyes as we watched our mother gasping an wheezing as she took her last breaths. "I..love you..take care of..your brother...Lucid..I..." She fell still an we heard her last breath flow between her lips. That's when we both screamed. The neighbors found us huddled next to our mothers dead body crying as we hugged each other. Our feet and legs were soaked in our mothers blood as it trickled out of her body until nothing was left. They pride us from our mother an dragged us away from the house screaming and crying, never to see the house or our mom again. My eyes opened and I was met by the pale light of the sunrise glistening in through the window. I sighed an rolled onto my back, the sheets tangled around my feet. 'I dreamed that again hm? I bet Lucids dreaming the same thing then.' I looked towards Lucids bed an saw it was empty. 'He must have gotten out of bed.' I threw the covers off an stood up stretching my arms as I walked out of the room an down the small flight of stairs in our apartment. I yawned an rubbed my eyes as I turned into the living room. He was standing on the balcony staring at the stars that were still lit in the sky. I shuffled over to him an felt the cool morning breeze ruffle my hair. I leaned against the railing my long gray hair fell over my shoulders. "Couldn't sleep anymore either?" He nodded, his short gray hair blowing across his face softly. "I dreamed about when mom died again." I nodded my head, "Me too bro. Me too."
He sighed and turned his back to lean against the railing an crossed his arms. "You think we'll ever stop having that nightmare?" I smiled, "All depends on if you'll stop going to bed at twelve in the morning." He smiled softly, "Shove off man. At least I work hard and have a NICE job." I spread my hands, "What's wrong with being a pro skater?! I get paid pretty gosh darn well to do tricks on my skate board!!!" He laughed, "Not a real job in my humble opinion. My idea of a job is actually doing something, besides tricks, in an office." I chuckled, "So we're gonna argue about which has the better job at four in the morning? Cause if so I'm going back to bed then." Lucid smiled, "Fine I'll stop harping on you about your job." I bowed sarcastically, "Why thank you kind sir!" He laughed an shoved me back inside. "Knock it off you dork!" I placed a hand on my chest, "Me a dork? Never! I only ever have fun and goof off just to annoy my big brother!" He chuckled an shook his head, "What ever knuckled head." I laughed an fell onto my bed face first. "Shut up dip shit." I heard him chuckled as I wrapped my arms around my pillow.
Then suddenly I felt him fall on my back. "Oi! What are you doing you weirdo?" He smiled as he laid on my back, "What am I not allowed to sleep with my brother?" I frowned, "That sounds so wrong when you say it like that!" He laughed, "Shut up you know I didn't mean it that way!" He laid his head on my back an his breathing grew steady. "G'morning Lucid." I felt him smile into my back, "Good morning Nyctalgia." We both fell asleep quickly and our breathing rose an fell in unison.
A shadow fell across us as we slept. A large man in a black hood stepped off my balcony an into my room. He loomed over is in my bed watching us sleep. "Are you the ones I'm searching for?" He reached out an pushed some of the hair away from my face. I moaned an waved a hand where his hand was. He pulled his hand back quickly as I fell silent again. He turned an strode back out onto the balcony, "I pray that I don't have to kill you for you seem like such nice kids." He smirked evilly underneath his hood and jumped from the balcony an ran off down the streets unharmed as the sun started to shine upon our little town, and dusk came to an end. We lay there unknowing of the trails and adventures that lay in our near future.Meaning of names
