Chapter Four: Iris POV
When I got home I found North outside my house, leaning against our stairs, smoking a cigarette. He didn't seem to see me, and kept his head down puffing out clouds of smoke every few seconds or so.
"My parents are going to kill you if they see you, you know?" I observed quiet enough not to scare him.
He didn't seem to be surprised to see me, and his head turned to look at me. His dark eyes were masked with something, but I couldn't quite put a name to it.
"Are you always this much of a rule police?"
I pursed my lips, pretending to think, "Hmm... yep."
He took a step towards me, but I backed up scared. He smirked at my reaction.
"Then fuck off, no police allowed," he went back to smoking.
I tisked at him, "My, my, you sure do have a temper don't you?"
Instead of answering, he only glared darkly at me. My body shivered at his glare. If looks could kill, I thought to myself.
"Why are you even out here anyway?" I inquired at him.
"I don't have a house key. The doors locked."
"Oh."
I opened the door for the both of us, feeling North's warm breath on my neck. I could see the clouds of smoke forming around me.
"You might want to put that out," I told him.
North took one last drag, then put out his cigarette before coming in, and headed upstairs immediately.
"Thanks," he hollered after a few seconds. Then his door clicked shut.
Part of me debating going and seeing what he was up to, but the other half of me won and I went into my own room.
My phone was getting blown up with texts. I wouldn't have minded except it was all about the neighbor in the next room.
OMG you're housing the Calvin Klein Model???
You get to live with the sexiest boy alive, so jealous!
Do you think you could get North's number for me? Please? :)
and from Lucy, You said you were going to tell me the details! Where are they? Lost in space?
I started to text her back when my message got interrupted by a separate text. My finger was about to hit ignore, until I saw it was from my mother. Sighing, I opened it.
Can you check to see if North has everything he needs? I'm going to the grocery store and wouldn't mind picking up a few things. Also, if he has any food preferences, please add. Thank you.
I texted her back saying I would, but sat on my bed unmoving. North's room was a vortex I didn't like going into.
He would probably just yell at me for walking in. Oh, what the hell. I wasn't about to get yelled at by my mom for not trying.
I stood up and knocked on his door. There was no answer so I knocked again.
Still no answer.
"North?" I called out.
The silence behind his door was unsettling quiet. I pushed the door open slowly, and my jaw fell open.
No one was his room, but the window was open a jar. North had climbed out the window.
