Chapter Nine

"North!" I whispered at him for the fifth time. He was ignoring me. Again. I looked at the front of the classroom to make sure the teacher wasn't looking at me. She wasn't.

"North-"

His head whipped to face mine, "The fuck do you want Jensen?"

"Do you have another pencil I could borrow?" I tried to keep my voice low. I showed him my broken pencil tip.

"We're in the middle of a test," he deadpanned. I scowled.

"Please."

"Do I look like I keep a stash of pencils in my backpack?"

I narrowed my eyes at him, but didn't answer. No, in fact he didn't. But the girl on the other side of me was Tracey Gieger. Tracey was in no way going to even look up from her test to acknowledge me, let alone give me a pencil. She was in the running for valedictorian, and I wasn't going to piss with that.

There was a grunting noise beside me and then I heard a clatter on my desk. I picked up the pencil that North had tossed on my desk and nodded a thank you, getting back to my test.

I finished up with barely any time to spare. The essay was killer, and was going to take most of my points, but it always did.

Most people, including me, stayed an extra minute after the bell to put final touches on the test. However, North was out the door, like always, putting his test in the bin on his way out.

And the most annoying part was that he would probably ace the test.

I walked over to my locker to find a giggling Lucy.

"What's with you?" I asked.

She jumped when she saw me, and put her cellphone away.

"Nothing."

I gave her a slow smile, "Who were you talking to?"

"Nobody," she continued stuffing her phone into her pocket. I reached for it.

"Iris, seriously. Nobody-" I got my hand on her phone, "Stop!"

This was strange. Lucy never hid anything from me. She was always telling me about any boy the first chance she could.

"Who are you hiding from me," I joked.

I easily got past her passcode. We both knew each others. The teasing smile I had on my face slid off when I saw who she was talking to.

I looked up at her. "I was going to tell you-" She began.

"No it's fine," I shook my head, "It's not like we were dating. We weren't anything actually. And I never claimed him."

She moved her hair out of her face nervously, "I know it's just, we ran into each other, and he said he was going to call you. I mean he ran into me, because he was looking for you. It's just we got off really well.. and yeah."

I looked down at Parker's name and then back at how nervous Lucy was. She really liked him. Smiling, I held back what I was feeling, and gave her back her phone, "No sweat."

"No. If you want me to stop seeing him I will. I swear," her eyes not leaving mine.

I laughed a little to try to lighten to the mood. "Seriously, Luc. I barely know him myself. You guys would be cute, anyway."

She bit her lip, but didn't say anything.

"I mean it," I prodded.

She nodded, and smiled a little. "Thanks."
