The Regection of Kellita Morris

Not A School Day...

I wake up at 6 am get dressed and walk to school. When I get there an hour later Mr. Tanner's not there. So I sit down in front of the door and wait. I close my eyes and rest my head on the door.

"Kellita" someone whispered and hit my knee. I opened my eyes to see Mr. Tanner staring down at me. I jump up really fast and I immediately get dizzy. I fall over and he catches me. "Kellita" I stand up and hold my head. "What are you doing here?"
"I, I'm here for school, why are you here?"
"There is no school today"
"Why?" I looked at him
"Its Saturday"
"Then why are you here?"
"I had to pick up a few papers"
"Oh" I looked down "Ok then, I'll see you Monday" I began to walk away when he grabbed my arms.
"Well just wait a minute, were you here all night?"
"Maybe" I lied, I just wanted to have some fun with him, I smiled nervously and looked at the ground.
"Well you wait here" he let go of my arms and walked into the class room. I waited for a while and I saw someone I didn't like walk past me, he gave me a stank look. Mike.
"What the hell are you doing here?" He spat
"Why the fuck you care?"
"Aye yo, you shut the fuck up"
"Fuck you, I beat yo ass!" I yelled as he got further away. I pointed at him.
"Shut up, hoe" he yelled back, and turned toward me walking backward.
"Yo girlfriend look like my mom"
"Whatever" he yelled and turned back around, and walked away.

Mr. Tanner came back out, and locked his door to his classroom. "You hungry?" He asked. I nodded and shrugged. He walked to his car and he drove to a Denny's we both ordered breakfast since it was morning. When we both got our breakfast we started to talk.
"So what where you really doing at school, Kellita?"
I took a bite of eggs before I answered. "I really thought we had school today"
I felt him look at me as I ate some more food. "Are you sure?"
"I'm sure"
"Where is your dad?"
I didn't answer, I was trying to think of a lie but nothing came "Why?"
"I just wanna know"
"At home"
"Really?"
"Yes"
"Then why did I see him half way cross the country"
I made a confused face "How?"
He pulled out his phone and showed me a picture of my dad wrapping his arms around my mom at the beach, the caption titled 'In Cali. wit the ex.' He put his phone away, and looked at me. I looked at my food.
"Are you staying home alone?" He asked, I didn't answer then he shook his head "Its ok I'll help you"
I looked up at him, "No you won't" I frowned.
"Why, Kellita?"
"Because tree is nothing wrong. I have been on my own for my whole life, and if you stand alone no one can hurt you"
"But if you stand alone it will be your greatest mistake" I felt his eyes try to read me. I dug into my pocket and pulled out $20.
"Why don't you treat me like black Annie and leave me be. Oh, and thanks for breakfast" I said throwing the money on the check book and walk out. I stuffed my hands in my jacket and walked toward home. I heard him calling my name but I never looked back.
