Dedicated to @SafiSanthiyapillai for your enthusiasm . Thank you, girl.
It had been 3 months since our unbelievably romantic courtship and marriage. Life was a really lonely affair.
There were days when I would physically hurt because I had no one to talk to.
Somehow, the telephone conversations I'd have with friends who were miles away, in India and in Australia, couldn't make up for my constant need to be comforted.
Vidyut was almost a ghost. I would only see him in the morning and sometime in the night. I'd idly wonder if he was seeing someone else, but it would suddenly strike me that I actually didn't care, and I would stop.
Even on weekdays, he would almost never be at home, and when he would, our incredibly deep conversations would include me asking him questions like ' are you allergic to this' or 'how tall are you exactly?', the former to make sure I don't kill him by feeding him something he is allergic to and the latter cuz I think human beings who live together should know such basics about each other.
And I was curious.
He confirmed my strong suspicions. He was indeed six feet two. Oh the irony of a five foot three ending up with a six foot two!
I started working in a company as their corporate secretary. Vidyut's parents had asked me to join his company but I refused out rightly.
We were awkward around each other at home. God forbid we work together!
It was many many days since that fateful day when he tied the mangal sutra around my neck.
I was his according to official records, but we were far from being husband and wife. Ours was the most confusing relationship on earth.
That day, after I had kissed him, I had gone back to my room and fell into sleep. That day was forgotten.
It was as if it had never happened. That did sadden me somewhat.
Anyways, I was all alone in the house. Vidyut had gone for a business meeting in a different continent.
It was not like we had beautiful, life altering conversations with each other, but the existence of a human being had been kind of a comfort.
Vidyut had gone to Australia for his meeting for a whole week and he was due to fly back today.
I found myself missing that loser a little bit. I was already scared of sleeping alone, a fear I couldnt shake off even after spending years alone in places far away from home, and the edginess of sleeping in a huge apartment all alone was beginning to get to me.
Thank god that fool would come back soon.
After making full utilisation of having a rich man who didn't care about the phone bill for a husband and talking to half a dozen of my friends in a row, I was bored.
I decided to flip through some channels on the TV. I came across a news channel, about a plane crash.
I prayed that the people would be alright. That was when they started speaking about the plane. It was coming to London from Australia, and had crashed near the Indian ocean.
There were no survivors.
My hand started shaking. I stared blankly at the screen, willing the announcer to announce that she was kidding.
But even through my shock I knew that that was not possible. Oh my god.
I sat there for five minutes, wondering what I was to do. Do I call his mother? I didn't have the strength in me to do that.
I knew the futileness of my attempt, but I still tried his phone. After trying his number for 25 odd times and getting the same switched off message, I felt the first tear slide down my cheek.
That asshole! Why did he have to come on that very flight? I wiped away my tears and continued trying his phone. It was switched off.
I was awake the whole night, trying his phone over and over again. My face was swollen from all the crying, and my whole body was aching from exhaustion.
I had finally gathered courage to call his mom around evening. She didn't say a word.
My terror increased a hundredfold.
Where was Vidyut?
Okay. To whoever is reading.
Unless you all respond and tell me if I'm doing a bullshit job writing this story or not, I can't update. That's all I'm asking. Cmon!
Show me some love :)
Thanks.
Love always,
LV. :(
