As the two began their clash, the entire city of Ur trembled violently. Sharp gusts of wind and streaks of light crisscrossed through the massive cityscape. Quetzalcoatl dashed across the rooftops, while Roy, on the ground, desperately tried to put distance between them.
"Ara? We agreed to a wrestling match, little one. Running around like this is going to make me very unhappy~!!"
In combat mode, Quetzalcoatl shed her previously gentle demeanor. Her smile and expression turned terrifying. Watching Roy sprint below, she suddenly yanked a massive stone pillar from a nearby building and hurled it toward him.
Boom!!
The pillar crashed into the ground, shattering the streets of Ur. Fortunately, Roy had enveloped himself in a protective barrier of mana, deflecting the pillar infused with the goddess's power.
Though they had agreed to fight, both were careful to control their strength to avoid harming the mortals in Ur. Quetzalcoatl relied solely on her immense physical strength, monstrous combat skills, and battle instincts. The pillar throw, enhanced with a touch of her divine energy, was the smallest-scale attack she could manage.
Roy quickly realized that close-quarters combat was futile. Even with the Count of Monte Cristo's speed, any attempt to ambush her would be intercepted. Worse, this was her domain... the Sun Temple's influence turned Ur into a pseudo-Reality Marble, granting her a significant advantage. Competing with a South American deity in her own territory was beyond reckless.
After a few exchanges, Roy knew he had to change tactics. First, he needed to lure her out of Ur. Only then could he stand a chance.
However...
"Mana Release - Semi-Power Output!!"
Facing the barrage of stone pillars, Roy raised his hand, gathering mana at his fingertips. He shaped it into a concentrated beam and fired it skyward, piercing through the pillars and aiming directly at Quetzalcoatl.
Boom!!
The massive pillar shattered mid-air, raining debris onto the city below. Fortunately, the residents, sensing the tremors and explosions, stayed indoors, avoiding casualties.
"What an impressive instant spell!"
"Ara? So you're not a close-combat fighter, but a spellcaster? How interesting. You look human, yet you're nothing like one. More like a god... but not quite."
Quetzalcoatl, still mid-air, twisted her body and drew a jagged weapon from her waist. With a single slash, she cleaved the mana beam in two.
Whoosh!!
The radiant energy split, flowing harmlessly past her and dissipating into the clouds. What seemed like a devastating attack was effortlessly neutralized.
"Don't think about running, kid. Take this!!"
As the goddess closed in, Roy's icy blue eyes locked onto her. His right hand ignited with black flames, forming a blazing sword. He swung it in a wide arc, meeting her descending strike head-on.
Clash!!
The collision of their powers erupted in a burst of mana sparks. Black light exploded, reflecting in both their eyes.
This time, Roy was at a disadvantage. His flame sword, conjured from mana and black fire, was no match for her divine construct, and modern mystic code like the Volumen Hydrargyrum would be shattered instantly.
This exchange drove home the importance of a powerful weapon in high-level battles. But now wasn't the time to dwell on that. Roy poured more mana into his flame sword, enlarging it to match the goddess's strength.
"Ara? You still have this much mana left? You're full of surprises, kid~"
Seeing Roy's sudden surge in power, Quetzalcoatl grew excited. She increased her own strength, eager to test his limits.
"Hmph..."
Feeling the immense pressure on his flame sword, Roy smirked. This was exactly what he wanted. As they struggled, he abruptly withdrew his mana, causing the sword to dim.
Whoosh!!
With her increased force, Quetzalcoatl's jagged blade sliced through the weakened flame sword, leaving a deep gash across Roy's chest. The impact sent him flying.
"Ara?! What happened? Why did your power drop so suddenly? Are you okay, kid?!"
The goddess was stunned. She had adjusted her strength based on Roy's earlier display. Her weapon shouldn't have overwhelmed him so easily. Clearly, Roy had let it happen.
But why? Why take such a grievous wound?
Before she could ponder further, she saw something astonishing. Roy, seemingly unharmed, stood on Ur's city walls, waving at her.
"How... how is this possible?"
Quetzalcoatl was baffled.
