During the night while Dan was recovering from the knife in the ribs he found himself on the moon paths. When he woke there as he had expected he was still feeling the pain and so was Hammer though they were in separate bodies. Both of them were moving slowly as they moved down them and thankfully it didn't take very long before they found the clearing. However long the walk on the moon paths it always culminated in a clearing with moon flowers and their Goddess sitting in a comfortable backless couch.
Both Dan and Hammer moved over to the couch and both bowed down to her. Dan gently took one of her hands and lifted it to his nose before he pressed a kiss against it. Hammer settled for a sniff and light lick. "Mistress how may we be of assistance to you? " Dan was rather shocked to find himself on the paths.
She sat up and reached over and placed her hands on both Dan and Hammer's heads. "My wolf and how you keep me busy. How did a wolf get involved with the Sholan's much less end up with a Leska and a kitten on the way? Silly wolf." Her voice was amused as she was talking and if they had looked up her eyes would have been dancing as she teased them.
Dan couldn't help but smirk slightly. "Should I introduce you to one of their deities? His name is Vartra..." As expected she bopped him on the head. What he hadn't expected was for Hammer to bite him and damn it but it hurt. "Damn wolf with itchy teeth!!!" He looked up at her. "If you don't mind my being forward what drew us here? What need do you have of us?"
She laughed at him even as she slapped the top of his head. "Darn disrespectful wolf." She became more serious. "I understand the decision you made but I am not pleased. Make the young Sholan Female known to Lucas and he is a much better fit for her. You are a good wolf but I do not approve of what has been asked of you. This is why you were brought here. Now go back, comfort the girl and do as I have commanded." With a flick of her hand the moon paths faded from view.
When Dan woke it was early morning and he found J'Efra was curled up next to him and she was sleeping. Based on her smell she was still very upset about last night. After thinking about it even if he hadn't been commanded not to mate with her Dan knew she wouldn't be comfortable. He had been forced to kill several people in front of her and that always cast a shadow over relationships. Dan had to sigh before he gently urged her awake.
When J'Efra finally woke she rolled on her back and stretched before she realized there was a warm body in her bed. When she realized that she tensed before rolling towards Dan. She wrapped an arm around his waist and pressed her face against his chest. "Thank you for saving me last night Dan." As the memories came back she wanted to cry. For the moment any urge to mate was gone.
Dan sighed and curled an arm around her. "I am would have done the same for anyone. It is who I am though I am sorry you had to see that." He lightly stroked her back but for comfort and nothing else. As of now any interest in her had been burnt out by the Moon Goddesses command. "J'Efra I am going to be upfront with you. I was visited by my Goddess last night. She commanded me not to mate with you. She did suggest one of the young wolves you might find interesting. In this case I can't disobey her. I am sorry to have to tell you that. I was honored to be chosen as your first."
J'Efra sighed and thankfully she wasn't going to have to tell Dan she didn't think she could go through with it. "I understand and when a god or goddess speaks we have to listen. I will meet him and see what happens. You will always be important to me." With a yawn she sat up and looked at him. When she did she was shocked since all he had left of last night was two scars. They were red and new looking but they looked several weeks old to her.
Dan sat up and winced slightly. "I really getting knifed or shot. It always hurts the next day. I need a bath so I can clean the blood off and I will see about getting you some new bed coverings. No reason for you to try and get my blood out of them." Even with all the meat it had take some time for him to heal. The first knife hadn't been bad but the second had gone into his chest. That had hit his lung and it had taken time to heal. Breakfast was going to be large to keep the healing up. "Crap, gotta deal with the Police and the Clan Lord. That sucks big time. I wonder if I can pull a sickie for a day or two." That was a definite grumble.
