We arrived at my front door earlier than expected, thanks to Roxy's knowledge of shortcuts. Payne and I walked in first.

"Ah, my two favorite ladies are back. What did you bring me?"

Roland embraced me and we kissed. Roxy and Devon then entered the room.

"Aww." Said Roxy, "Isn't that sweet?"

"Roxy! Devon! Well isn't this a pleasant surprise!"

They embraced and we all conversed. Payne showed Roland her new knives and Devon and Roxy arm wrestled. It almost seemed as if the inevitable had been avoided and all was well with us.

Later that night, Roxy went home with Payne and Devon slept in our guest bedroom.

"Ah, my love." Said Roland, "This has been a very relaxing day and quite the surprise. I'm glad they came for a visit."

"Yes, I thought you'd enjoy their company."

Roland examined me deeply.

"Are you alright my love?"

I stopped breathing for a small time. I clenched my teeth and closed my eyes tight.

"Roland." I started.

I couldn't hold back my tears. I embraced Roland and began to sob. He held me and stroked my head.

"Evee, what's the matter? What's wrong?"

"It's my dreams Roland. I never said anything to you because I didn't want to worry you. I'm scared Roland. I don't want to lose you."

"Evee, you're not going to lose me. How do you even know that dream is true?"

"Because I asked Payne to voidscape it for me." I said, hoping he wouldn't be upset at my reply.

"Evee..." He replied, "It's that serious?"

"Yes. I wouldn't ask her to do something like that unless I felt it was that serious."

"So she told you that the dream meant I was going to die."

"Yes."

"Do you know any details?"

I nodded.

"Care to share?"

"You have about three days left. It's supposed to happen at sunset, and a bird or bird like creature is your cause of death."

He stared at me blankly, pondering my words in his head as he tried to make sense of it all.

"Evee, I'm a general of war, I don't think I'm going to be killed by a bird."

"It doesn't have to be a bird! Just a creature like a bird!"

"Christ."

He got up from the bed and began to pace.

"I'm guessing Roxy and Devon being here isn't just a coincidence huh?"

I shook my head. Then I remembered. I got up and reached into my bag and pulled out a long box.

"What's that?" Roland asked, glad to change the subject.

"It's something I got you from the Sublian coast."

I handed him the box.

"Open it." I said.

He held it to him, popped the top open, and pulled out the chain. His eyes began to tear.

"Evee." He started.
