I awoke in a field, beside Roxy. My wounds had been tended to but my mind was still distraught.

"How are ya feelin'?" Roxy turned to me with a smile. She had suffered several burns on her legs and arms.

"Tired." I said lazily. "Devon, how is he?"

Roxy hung her head. "Not well. He lost a lot of blood."

"What time is it?"

"About two in the afternoon."

I shook my head and attempted to stand up. "I'm going to check on Devon."

Roxy nodded and closed her eyes.

"Lady Evelyn! You're awake!" Kalu ran over to me and hugged me tight.

"Yes little one, I'm doing alright." I stroked her head. "Where's Devon?"

She pointed to a blanket which lay next to a long brown trench coat. I walked over to it, and there was Devon, lying on his back.

"Hey." I said softly.

He smiled. "Hello, Milady."

"How are you feeling?" I asked

"I've been better." He smiled again. "But I'll be fine. How are you?" He turned his head slightly to look at me.

"I'm alright. Just worried about everyone else." I ran my fingers through his brown hair. "Thank you for not dying on me."

He chuckled. "Never that, Evelyn. Never that."

I stood up and walked over to Sera.

"Thank you, for keeping yourself out of harms way." I said.

She nodded. "I had to. As much as I wanted to rush in and help fight, I'm no good to you immobilized. How are your wounds?"

"I feel fine, Sera. Thank you."

She nodded. "We need to stop to re-supply on food and other necessities. Also...the woman and child died in the fire."

"Damn.." I put my hand to my mouth and the other rested upon my head. "How's Reuben taking it?"

"Not well." Said Sera. "Talk to him, bring him back to reality."

I nodded and turned in the direction Sera motioned toward. I found Reuben swinging and fighting the air.

"Reuben-"

"Leave me." He cut me off.

"I will not." I said firmly.

"I've brought you only trouble so far. The hunter's village, the checkpoint, and now...this." He said as he continued to swing at an invisible enemy.

"None of this is your fault. Everyone is alright."

"Leave me." He repeated.

"No." I said.

"Why not? I'm only a burden." He stepped to me, his face an inch from mine. "I'm no family to you. I'm not a loved one. So, tell me why you won't just leave me!"

I stood my ground and took his rough face in my hands. "You are family." I drew in and  wrapped my arms around his neck, my left hand supported his head. I felt his tears fall on my shoulder as his arms wrapped around me.

"Her eyes." Was all he could say.

"What?" I whispered.

"Her eyes...were silver."

My knees grew weak at his words and  I let my tears fall with his.
