We set up camp about a mile from the village and hoped for a restful afternoon. We set up a fire to cook our food and laid out blankets to rest.
"Oh dear, Isaiah." Said Sera. "You're beat up pretty badly. Let me fix you up."
Sera and Isaiah sat near the fire. She took out a small rag and some ointment from her satchel. She poured some of the liquid onto the rag and gently dabbed it onto Isaiah's wounds.
"Doesn't that feel better?"
"Yeah, it's really cool on the cuts; burns a little, though."
She smiled gently at him.
"Of course it does. It's disinfecting the wound."
I tended to my own wounds and watched Kalu train with Devon.
"Watch your feet, now!"
"I know! I know!"
She swung at him and he dipped and dodged accordingly. I stopped what I was doing to see her fake him out and strike him in the ribs.
"Haha! Very good, little one! I'm off to bed now. It's been a long day."
"Aww. But I want to keep training!"
"I wish I had half your energy but you need to get your rest. That's half the training. "
He patted her head and she trudged to her spot on the grass and curled up. I sat next to her and she rested her head on my lap. I watched her sleep and stroked her hair. Slowly, I joined her in rest.
"So, you came back after all." Said Roxy.
She strolled over to Reuben, who sat at the edge of the cliff, his feet dangled over the side.
"Of course I did." He said, without looking at her.
She sat next to him and dangled her feet next to his.
"Listen, I'm sorry for the things I said to you. Calling you names and such—"
"You're a pirate; I didn't expect much from you when it came to manners." He said.
"Well, I'm still sorry and I'm going to try and stop."
"Is that why you came over here? To say you were sorry?"
She looked down at her feet.
"It's a long way down." She said.
"Don't ignore me. Is that why you came over here? To apologize to the dog?"
"Yes— actually. That's exactly the reason I came over here."
"You're a terrible liar." He smirked.
"I'm a very good liar. I'm not lying."
"You wouldn't have sat down if that's all you came over here for."
"Fine, I'll just leave."
She got up to walk away and he pulled her back, swung her around, and sat her on his lap.
"Now, what did you come over here for?"
She held his face, leaned in, and kissed him gently.
"I'm a good liar when I want to be."
I awoke that night to the sound of all sorts of nocturnal creatures. I woke everyone up and we set out. Payne was already on the road when I reached it.
