Perrie and Jade's interaction almost turned back to normal but the way they were treated by fans was by no means normal. Clark had been right – their fan base had easily grown by twenty per cent and Jade kind of hated that it was only because of her alleged wedding to a band member.
On the other hand she felt pride whenever she read a tweet or a fan told her that they had made them come out to their family or friends or that their wedding would help a lot of young queers come to terms with who they are, struggling with internalised homophobia.
Perrie smiled so brightly every time someone came up to them and thanked them for what they had done for them and seeing how happy it made the blonde Jade couldn't help but love this reaction as well.
"Please let this all be over soon," Perrie sighed one night after a gig to a few hundred people. "I mean, it's great that we're helping people? But you know... the constant questions about our marriage are getting tiring. They've asked everything about five times now."
Jade nodded and dropped into the seat next to the blonde, leaning her head on her shoulder. "I know, I wish it would die down a bit and focus on our music again... I mean, tomorrow is our four year anniversary and I don't want everyone to be like, 'Oh, Jade and Perrie got together four years ago today!' It should be about Little Mix."
"The four of us," Perrie nodded and absentmindedly drew patterns on Jade's bare thigh – it was a hot summer in the USA and they were constantly wearing shorts or skirts in the hope of not melting away in the American sun. In the UK it was never this hot and although they loved the sun it was very exhausting to pull off a performance with full choreography when it felt like it was about fifty degrees Celsius.
"Jade, Pez," Leigh murmured as she walked into the room and halted in her steps for a second upon seeing the two sitting there on the sofa but then put on a smile so quickly that Jade wondered if she had just imagined it. "If you want, there's food in Jesy's room for the four of us so..."
"Give us one second," Perrie muttered and watched Leigh leave the room. They didn't know what was going through the black haired woman's head when she watched the two of them for a few mere seconds before leaving. "Jade, I wanted to talk to you."
Heart racing, Jade lifted her head and turned it around to look at Perrie. Their faces were close and Jade couldn't help but glance at Perrie's lips before lifting her eyes back up to Perrie's. She cursed herself internally because Perrie must have noticed but then again it didn't mean anything – it was just because they were so close to each other.
But what was the blonde about to say? Had Jade acted over-the-top? Had she made Perrie uncomfortable with her constant (even if it was subconscious) touching? Had she said anything in the interview today that made Perrie feel weird and uneasy about their relationship?
Jade loved what she had with the blonde, their connection and that they didn't need to talk to each other to know what the other was feeling, really. Maybe Perrie had noticed that Jade had acted differently since their marriage?
But it wasn't even intentional and it was just in the heat of the moment because Jade couldn't help thinking my wife sometimes and then it hit her that they weren't actually married because Jade wasn't in love with Perrie and Perrie wasn't in love with her.
"I feel really bad about telling my mum that we are actually married and in love with each other because I hate lying to her," Perrie said and Jade felt her heart stop racing with relief. "Don't you think... don't you think we should at least tell our parents that this whole thing is fake? I mean, Jesy and Leigh know..."
Jade considered this for a few seconds before nodding in agreement. "Yeah, it felt weird, if I'm honest. My mum was really angry with me when I told her we'd gotten married because I never told her that I was into you or that we didn't invite her to the wedding." Suddenly an image flashed through her mind, both her and Perrie in beautiful wedding gowns with their whole family surrounding them, cheering that the two of them finally found each other.
