Hakeem. . .

It's been almost a week since I took DJ away from her house. She hasn't been herself since then. Everyday she stares out of the window like she's waiting for something or someone. I watch her fall asleep every night then wake up at the same time from the same nightmare. She cries on my chest until she falls back to sleep . It hurts me to see her in pain, or scared. I've only known her for 2 months but I ain't never felt this way about nobody. I care about her. I feel like I have to protect her. When I first saw her I thought we would mess around for a few weeks then it would get old. I feel like she's a part of me. I know she feels safe with me but if anything she makes me feel the same way. I sat there watching her sleep. She was shaking and sweating a little so I knew she would be waking up soon. I went to get a cold bottle of watter and a wet towel for her head. When I walked back in she was sitting Indian style on the bed. "Why you wake up?"

"I felt you leave me."It hurts to see the fear in her eyes.

"I'm sorry. Here drink all of this and then lay back down with the towel."

"Can you come lay down with me?"

"Yes. What's wrong, you ain't tired?" I was getting kind of worried by how awake she seemed because I left her.

"No, I'm not sleepy at all. I want to talk to you if you're not too tired."She always did that when she wanted something. She never came out and said it. She would put what I wanted first. That drove me crazy. I watched her guzzle the water down them wipe herself with the towel. I layed down on the bed and she sat up and looked at me in deep thought. "DJ, you creeping me out Thug. Stop staring at me."

"Thank you" She layed her body down next to mines and put her head on my chest like that night. "You are my bestfriend and. . . Thank you."

For the next hour I sat there and she went straight to sleep. No shaking. No sweating. No nightmares. Her birthday is in a week. Got to go shopping tomorrow. That was last thought before drifting off.

I woke up to her sitting in the chair next to my bed. "Girl, you better not scare me like that nomore. You ok?"

"I'm fine just woke up early."

"Let's go out to eat. There's that little place in Long Beach." She smiled a little. She hadn't left the apartment in a week. "Please." I gave her a big goofy grin.

"Fine."

An hour and a half later I was ready to go. "DJ, bring your ass girl!" She walked out looking beautiful. Her hair was full of soft curls that fell around her face and she had absolutely no makeup on. She was wearing jean shorts, a yellow belly top, and yellow sandels.

"You ready Punk?"

"DJ, you took forever."

"Shut up."

We were out fo rhours then we went to the mall. She insisted that we go to Crenshaw mall. I obliged since she actually came out. We stayed there for hours and shopped until i was tired of carrying bags. When we went to the car she had a weird look on her face. I saw her looking at some couple walking across the parking lot. She looked sad and in my mind she wanted that. In the car she looked distant then asked, "Where do you get all this money from Keemy?" I looked at her sideways and dhe put her head down. I started to answer but decided against it. Her phone rang and she looked scared to answer it.
