Niecey. . .

We were riding home from the mall and I asked Hakeem where he got all this money from. He gave me a look that said stay in my place so I retracted. I'm still so curious. My phone rang and it was the call I had been dreading. It was my mother. Hakeem had told her that I would be staying with Shawny for a week and my week was up. "Hey Mommy."

"Are you coming home today Baby Girl? I miss you." She sounded like she really did miss me a lot. I missed her too, but I didn't miss home.

"Mommy, I was thinking that I should stay with Frankie for the rest of the summer. She needs help now that she's out on her own. Do you mind that?"

"Well, if she needs you I don't mind. But, can you come home to get some clothes and come visit me all summer? I miss my little girl and next year it will be you who will be on her own." Just the thought of going back home made my skin crawl. What if Derrick was there? What if he's just waiting for me?

"Ok Mom. I'll be over there later." I hung up after telling my Mother I loved her then I sent a text to both Shawny and Frankie. I hadn't told them what happened with Derrick and planned to do it after my birthday weekend. I also told Frankie about the lie I told my mother so she could cover for me. "Umm, I need to go home and get some clothes. I might go stay with Frankie for the rest of the summer." I didn't want to make him mad but I felt bad imposing on his apartment everyday and night.

"No, you ain't. We can take your car to your house to get all your clothes then we going home. You know you can live with me DJ." He looked at me with those light brown eyes and I melted all over again. He cared but I wanted to know what he planned on getting out of all his generosity towards me.

"DJ, I will tell you everything in due time. You ain't ever got to worry about nothing when you in my care. You turn 17 in a week. You want a dinner party or something?"

"No." I was so confused. In his presence I felt so safe but at the same time I was scared. I wondered if we would be this close of friends forever. When we pulled up in front his apartment I got a weird feeling. I looked over at him. I felt like he felt the same thing I did. I gave him a fake reassuring smile. He saw right through it. He gave me a kiss on the forehead then got out to open my door.
